Found September 05, 2013 on Steelers Depot:
The 2013 NFL season gets underway tonight, so now it's time for my yearly preview of the Pittsburgh Steelers upcoming season along with my prediction. Offense: Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger appears to be healthy, and he looks good physically. It goes without saying that the Steelers only have a shot this season as long he is stays that way. Roethlisberger is the king of third downs and play-action, and a good running game will only enhance both of those qualities. The offense will likely have to lean on a running back by committee until Le'Veon Bell is fully healthy and able to carry the load. While Isaac Redman might be the starter initially, I expect both LaRod Stephens-Howling and Felix Jones to be used as complements to him until Bell is ready. I hate using a committee of running backs, but I just don't see any way that they can avoid it at the start of the season. Stephens-Howling appears to be a good fit for the offense, and he should see plenty of work on third d...

Dick LeBeau Says He Doesn’t Have Many Defenses For Troy Polamalu In His Playbook

Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu appears to be the healthiest he's been in several seasons, and the team will need him to remain that way in 2013 if they expect to make a run at a seventh Lombardi Trophy. With that being said, defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau said Thursday during his talk with the media that just because Polamalu is in the lineup, it doesn't mean...

Steelers DE Cameron Heyward To Be Featured In Sub Packages This Year

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted defensive end Cameron Heyward in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft and with this now being his third season, he is expected to play a lot more than he has in his first two seasons. Head coach Mike Tomlin talked about the Ohio State product Tuesday during his press conference. "We feel very good about Cam Heyward," said Tomlin. "We...

Tomlin Press Conference Reveals a Few Nuggets

Mike Tomlin made his first regular season appearance today before the reporters in his usual Tuesday spot and offered some insights on the Tennessee Titans as well as his own team. Late-blossoming Clark honored by captaincy

Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark never wanted to be a captain. When his teammates failed to name him one during his collegiate career at LSU, Clark says he was relieved. Still, Clark didn't turn the honor down when the Steelers named him one of four captains for the 2013 season. The 11-year veteran called it a ''blessing'' and feels he's at the point...

NFL Injury News: Steelers rule out RB Le’Veon Bell week one

The Pittsburgh Steelers decided that they need a significant upgrade at the running back position during this spring’s NFL Draft. They selected the prolific scoring machine, Le’Veon Bell with hopes he would become the team’s every down back, something unique in today’s NFL game. Heath Miller still can’t say when he’ll return

Even though Steelers tight end Heath Miller has been removed from the physically unable to perform list,  he still doesn’t know when he’ll get back on the field. Removing tight end Heath Miller from the physically unable to perform list also removed the restrictions he was under by NFL rules, which do not permit those on PUP to participate in any team drills. “It’s the...

Loss Of Will Johnson Could Result In More 12 Personnel Groupings Against Titans

The season is not getting off to a good start for Pittsburgh Steelers fullback Will Johnson, who will more than likely sit out the Sunday season opener at Heinz Field against the Tennessee Titans with a hamstring injury that he suffered in the preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers. With Will Johnson likely to be sidelined, the Steelers might very well use a fullback by committee...

Titans-Steelers Preview

Following their 8-8 finish last season, Ben Roethlisberger figures to have his work cut out for him as he attempts to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers back to the playoffs. Without a go-to workhorse in the backfield and possibly two of his top receivers from 2012, Roethlisberger will try to help the Steelers win their 11th straight home opener Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. While...
