I have finished my first five trips through the game tape of the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-10 win over the New York Jets and below are my notes from the first half of the game. The second half notes are being finished now and will be posted shortly. The bubble screen to start to Antonio Brown was a great call to try to loosen up the Jets right off the bat. Leonard Pope, Jerricho Cotchery and Willie Colon all missed blocks on the second down sweep to the left side. The 3rd and 10 end around to Brown on the sweep to the other side got the first down. Loved the pass to Will Johnson out in the Read more [...]

Ryan Clark, Ike Taylor outlast bad officiating in Steelers win

As a fan, I’ve been somewhat tolerant of the NFL Replacement Officials this season. After all, these are mainly college officials from smaller schools thrust into the limelight under a ton of pressure. Every missed call can turn the outcome of game upside down potentially. Having said that, things have gotten worse rather than better through the first 2 weeks of the regular season...

LaMarr Woodley To Be In An Episode Of South Park This Season

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley announced via his Twitter account Monday night that he has a cameo appearance upcoming in a new episode of South Park. The Comedy Central show that was created by Matt Stone and Trey Parker will kick off it's 17th season one week from Wednesday. While we do not know what the plot line of the episode will be, you have to keep in mind...

New York Jets Week 2 Report Card – Failing Effort

Quarterbacks (C) - Mark Sanchez came out of the gates on fire, completing 4 of his 5 first passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. After that, the passing offense went into the tank as he finished an ugly 10/27 for 138 yards. He misfired on a few passes down the field and didn’t seem to be on the same page as his receivers. He wasn’t helped by dropped passes, poor route running...

Steelers Offensive Personnel Groupings Versus Jets Week 2

The Pittsburgh Steelers beat to the New York Jets 27-10 in the home opener Sunday at Heinz Field and now we have our second look at the offense of Todd Halley, and more specifically, the personnel groupings that he has used now in the two games and how each performs down and distance wise year to date. As I noted last week, we saw the offense use 3 wide receivers quite a bit more...

Steelers Monday evening quarterback

fter watching the game live, then watching it again on replay,  I have determined that I need to make a statement about Big Ben.  Although I do not care for him outside the field, he has learned to do more than just play back yard football.   He played extremely well yesterday, and I think it is time I acknowledge that fact.  Ben distributed the ball to 10 receivers on Sunday...

Running game has fizzled so far for Steelers

Pittsburgh's offense has been getting away without production on the ground, and they don't want to continue in that vein. The Steelers have the 30th-ranked run game, and they have averaged just 2.6 yards per carry. This after they let coordinator Bruce Arians go, in part because they did not like his philosophy when it came to the ground game. However, Arians oversaw a...

Tim Tebow says he would consider becoming a politician after NFL

People joke all the time that Tim Tebow is such a polarizing and popular figure that he could probably run for political office now and win. We all know that won’t happen now, but don’t rule out a Senate seat somewhere in his future. The New York Post via ESPN is reporting that a political future for Tebow is a “Possibility.”  I haven’t ruled it out. Whatever...

Jets sign WR Pollard to practice squad, release WR Arukwe

The New York Jets signed wide receiver Royce Pollard to the practice squad and released wide receiver Stanley Arukwe from the practice squad, the team announced Monday. Pollard joined the Jets as an undrafted free agent in May. He was waived in August and added to the practice squad Sept. 2. He was released from the practice last Wednesday. The Jets signed Arukwe in August and...

Is Tebow Time Ready To Take On Broadway?

The second the Jets pulled the trigger on trading for Tim Tebow, it was only a matter of time before these articles started being written – and based on Sanchez’s performance on Sunday, he only managed to make it till the end of Week 2. Mark Sanchez was able to keep the Tebow conversation quiet after a stellar Week 1 performance, but Week 2 may serve as a wake-up call for all...

The steel curtain falls

It looked like the Jets were going to continue where they left off from week 1 against the Buffalo Bills when they took their first possession down field for what looked like an easy touchdown when Sanchez hit Holmes for six.  Then the Steelers made adjustments and that was the end of that optimism. The Jets seemed to lose focus and make mistakes that came at critical parts...

Steelers Impose Will

With Jerome Bettis, the godfather of nail-in-the-coffin, final drives looking on, the Steelers went old school to finish off the New York Jets, 27-10, at Heinz Field.
