Pittsburgh Steelers left tackle Max Starks announced via Twitter today that he will be having surgery next week presumably to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. Starks injured the knee late in the first half against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Wild Card game last week in Denver and was replaced the rest of the game by Jonathan Scott. Starks was re-signed by the Steelers after the week 4 loss to the Houston Texans and started the very next week against the Tennessee Titans. He started all 13 games since coming back on a one-year contract. Starks is scheduled to be an unrestricted free Read more [...]

Polamalu wins appeal on $10,000 fine for phone call

Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu will not have to pay for his expensive phone call. Polamalu broke NFL rules by using a phone during a game this season, drawing a $10,000 fine for his action. League rules prohibit the use of cell phones on the bench from 90 minutes prior to kickoff to the conclusion of the game. What was so urgent that he needed to borrow the team trainer...

Maurkice Pouncey In Cast After Surgery, Will Be Ready For Training Camp

Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey had surgery on his injured left ankle on Thursday and is currently in a cast presumably for the next several weeks. You can see the casted left ankle in the picture below as he signs his limited edition 2012 Pro Bowl shirts. Pouncey says he will be ready for training camp in Latrobe according to his Twitter feed. Pouncey originally injured...

Steelers Likely To Be Awarded Two 7th Round Compensatory 2012 Draft Picks

While the 2012 compensatory draft picks will not be announced until the league meetings in March, it is pretty easy to guess that the Steelers at worst will receive two 7th round compensatory draft picks for the loss of unrestricted free agents, tight end Matt Spaeth and defensive tackle Nick Eason, last offseason. Compensatory picks are awarded based on a formula that takes into...

A Hobbled Roethlisberger Made Postseason Success Impossible for Steelers

The records will say that the 2011 season for the Pittsburgh Steelers ended on the first play of overtime in a wild-card game in Denver, at the hand of Tim Tebow and the Broncos. But for all intents and purposes, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ season ended on a Thursday night in December. To be exact, it was midway through the second quarter, against the Cleveland Browns, at Heinz...

Keith Butler: Still Playing the Waiting Game with the Steelers

Butler will be returning for his 9th season as the Steelers' LB Coach, Image Courtesy of post-gazette.com As I discussed in my last post, legendary Defensive Coordinator Dick LeBeau will be returning to the Steel City in 2012.  In the spirit of continuity and the yearly reading of “T’was the Night Before Christmas” (kudos Dave), the move itself makes sense...

Why I Hate Beat Writers Who Write About the Steelers

Places like Yahoo! are sad excuses of search engines and news websites.  The level of mediocrity is unnerving and disturbing.  The writers who contribute to these sites always just gloss over their topics and have about as much understanding in what they are talking about as they would in quantum physics.  These sites are at their worst when trying to talk about sports at an in...

Steelers: A to C

With the 2011 season in the books, it’s time to break down the Pittsburgh Steelers’ roster. We’ll move along alphabetically and make it a 5-parter. Here’s A through C:

Steelers Round Up: Friday the 13th, Sushi and Hockey

It’s been a sad week with the season ending.   So, with the changing of the season, so is the changing of the Round Up.  Usually done on Wednesday will now be something to look forward to on Fridays.  I’m going to try and keep this as upbeat as possible! LaMarr Woodley was feeling pretty good about news that Coach LeBeau is definitely coming back next year. Charlie...

Steelers DT Hampton won't need surgery; Pouncey healing

Pittsburgh Steelers veteran defensive tackle Casey Hampton will not require offseason surgery on the torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered in last weekend's wild-card loss to the Denver Broncos.

On the Steelers: Who needs defense anymore?

The playoffs resumed this weekend with the possibility of a historic matchup in the Super Bowl pitting the NFL's worst two defenses. Yes, No. 32 Green Bay vs. No. 31 New England. And where is the No. 1 defense? Home, after losing for the first time in the playoffs to a team without a winning record, a team with the No. 23 offense and No. 20 defense. The Steelers had the No.

Steelers LB James Harrison Not Fined For Hit On Tim Tebow

It looks like Steelers linebacker James Harrison won't be any lighter in the wallet for his roughing-the-passer penalty on Tim Tebow during Sunday's playoff game. Harrison was fined $100,000 in 2010 for various illegal hits on unsuspecting opponents, and he the league finally suspended him in 2011 after he knocked Browns quarterback Colt McCoy silly. Of course, no game involving...

Steelers 2012 Team Needs: Left Tackle

The Steelers go into the offseason with no Left Tackle.  The most important position on the line is vacant at the moment.  Max Starks is having ACL surgery so he is out of the picture for the moment.  He is also a Free Agent so he was not a given anyways.  Jonathan Scott is on the roster for one more season but no one wants that.  He was awful over there at the beginning of...
