Pittsburgh Steelers left tackle Mike Adams is getting more and more repetitions at practice, and that means more trust from the coaching staff and an indication of better things to come for the rookie out of Ohio State.

He's already surpassed veteran Trai Essex on the depth chart as he's prepared to at least get the start in their first preseason game against Philadelphia.

Adams told the Beaver County Times , “Coach (Mike Tomlin) told me that I’d have my shot, and so far, that’s the way it’s been,” said Adams, a second-round pick. “It’s been that way for the past few days now.

“I don’t know what their plans are. But I’m going to take advantage of every opportunity I’m given.”

The 6-foot-7 323 lb Adams is also gaining the respect of the man who's blind side he'll possbily be protecting come week one.

Ben Roethlisberger says he loves the fight in him; “we got to see him get in a little scuffle the other night,” Roethlisberger said of the Friday evening workout at Latrobe Memorial Stadium. “It’s good to see in a young lineman, as we like to say, what kind of ‘dog’ he has in him. It was good to see his tenacity.”
