I received a rant via email today as to why the Pittsburgh Steelers signed kicker Shaun Suisham to a four-year deal prior to the season started and if they indeed were stuck with him in 2012 because of it. The short answer is of course no, they are not stuck with him and below is the long answer as to why. The Suisham four-year contract included a $1.35 million signing bonus that gets amortized over the 4 years of the deal. With one year now in the books, Suisham has $1.0125 million left of signing bonus that needs to be accounted for. He is scheduled to count $1.6875 against the 2012 salary Read more [...]

Broncos Sign WR Tyler Grisham To Future Contract

The Tyler Grisham days with the Pittsburgh Steelers are now over as the Denver Broncos announced today that they signed the former Clemson wide receiver to a future contract. Grisham was originally signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent following the 2009 draft and made the practice squad out of training camp. Grisham was promoted to the Steelers 53 man roster for the...

Steelers Six From Around The Web – January 17th – Roethlisberger Almost A Giant Edition

Peter King wrote in his MMQB piece how the New York Giants would have been fine drafting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger if San Diego Chargers GM A.J. Smith had played hardball with then-Giants GM Ernie Accorsi as the clock wound down on the fourth overall pick of the 2004 NFL Draft. Hines Ward was on NFL Total Access yesterday and talked about losing to the Denver Broncos and how...

The Steelers announced today that Troy Polamalu and Maurkice Pouncey have received another honor for their play this year.  Polamalu and Pouncey have been named to The Pro Football Writers All NFL Team.  This goes along with their Pro Bowl and All Pro recognition.  Polamlau made that squad last season, while Pouncey made the Rookie Team last year.  Just another in a long line...

William Gay survives, succeeds

With so many players on college football rosters, we don’t get to know many of them well, kids like William Gay who pass through the University of Louisville.Gay is playing cornerback now for the Pittsburgh Steelers and his name was called often on a weekly basis during the regular season and playoffs. What we didn’t know about him when he was playing at UofL was that he had overcome...

QB Connection: Does Packers’ Loss to Giants Justify Steelers Playing Roethlisberger?

One thing Roethlisberger and Rodgers have in common: Wearing silly hats during your press conference post defeat. Courtesy nfl.com I am neither a Packers fan nor a Giants fan.  But, with the Pack beating the Steelers last year in the Super Bowl my thought was if the Steelers can’t rematch them in the Super Bowl this year than they shouldn’t go either – Go Giants.  Plus there’s...

Steelers Report Card: Final grades for 2011

Ben Roethlisberger passed for more than 4,000 yards and made the Pro Bowl, but his season was punctuated by turnovers (18), sacks (40) and, most especially, injuries. Once he sustained a high-ankle sprain Dec. 8, the offense was never really the same. He had his moments such as outdueling Tom Brady and throwing five TDs against the Titans.

Kirby Wilson faces a long road to recovery

On the Friday before the Steelers’ season ended with a 29-23 overtime loss in Denver, running backs coach Kirby Wilson was seriously injured in a house fire. The attachment of the label “not life-threatening” created a sense of relief, but it’s now clear that Wilson faces a long and difficult road to recovery. The Steelers…

Post Season Thoughts

I hate the Patriots. I just do. I’ve always hated the Patriots. I remember when I was a little kid…I hated the Patriots. In 2004, during Big Ben’s rookie season when the Patriots beat us in the AFC Championship game, my hate for the Patriots was renewed. “Spy Gate” ensued and my hate for Belicheat and his lovable gang of insanely good looking football players grew. Last...
