Tuesday during his press conference, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked to talk about the performance of punter Zoltan Mesko through the first six games of the season and he made it clear that he needed to improve.
“It’s been a mixed bag until this point,” said Tomlin. “It’s been inconsistent. Just about every game over the last three games he has had what I call a junior varsity punt. Thankfully we only punted once in the game [against the Ravens], negatively he didn’t get an opportunity to redeem himself from the punt. We need more consistency there.”
In the loss Sunday to the Oakland Raiders, Mesko was anything but consistent. While his first punt did travel 45 yards, it resulted in a net of just 27 following a 20 yard return by Raiders wide receiver Jacoby Ford and subsequent fumble out of bounds.
Mesko's next punt, following the Steelers second straight three and out by the offense, was blocked and while tight end David Paulson didn't help matters by l...

"With Mesko, the punting has been very similar to how it's been the previous weeks and really how I kind of characterized it," said Tomlin. "He&...

It’s no secret one of Coach Mike Tomlin’s least favorite aspects of his job is conducting press conferences. Following the loss against the Oakland Raiders, who knows if he’ll even show up for his next presser? Fortunately, with a need for some comic relief this season, we’ve gone ahead and speculated on exactly what might be said.
Mike Tomlin: I...

The latest depth chart released Tuesday by the Pittsburgh Steelers revealed that Jason Worilds had overtaken rookie Jarvis Jones as the starting right outside linebacker. Head coach Mike Tomlin talked about the demotion of the Steelers first-round draft pick during his weekly press conference.
"He's just not doing enough detailed work right now and really, Jason Worilds...
The illegal touching called on Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Antwon Blake following the second quarter punt by Zoltan Mesko against the Oakland Raiders was certainly a big play in the game and a few people have asked me if I could make an animated gif of it.
I have done just that and have watched it for on loop for nearly five minutes. I think it is clear that the ball changes...
As expected, the Pittsburgh Steelers made no trades prior to the 4 p.m. ET deadline.
The Steelers had already uncharacteristically traded for running back Felix Jones during the preseason and tackle Levi Brown during the Bye Week. Like any and every coach should do, head coach Mike Tomlin didn't rule out the possibility of a trade during his Tuesday press conference.

What was the worst game that the Pittsburgh Steelers have had in recent memory on special teams in which the opposing team did not score a touchdown? Was it this one? If you said yes, I would not put up much of an argument.
Some of the mistakes were obvious—glaring, even.
Kicker Shaun Suisham, who entered the afternoon coming off a game-winner from beyond 40 and...
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and coach Mike Tomlin talked Monday about how to use a timeout vs. taking a penalty. Roethlisberger used a timeout against the Oakland Raiders with 1:43 to play after he thought a horse-collar penalty was going to be called following a seven-yard run by Le’Veon Bell. The game clock had stopped because Bell had gone out of bounds...

Disappointing is an understatement when it comes to the describing the first half of the Steelers 2013 season.
Blame can be placed on injuries... maybe a lack of offensive weapons... a voodoo curese?... or, dare I say, a lack of discipline.
Maybe that last statement is more accurate than any of us want to believe. But, for me, it is clear that if that is the case...
Following the 21-18 loss to the Oakland Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin met the media and went over the injuries suffered in the game.
"Ramon Foster sustained a concussion there early on and was unable to return," started Tomlin. "Guy Whimper had a left knee injury that needs to be and will be evaluated. David DeCastro has a right ankle injury that...
