I think we all knew it was coming, but we didn’t want to believe it.  Unfortunately, nothing gold can stay…

The news came in a tweet from Pittsburgh’s own Ed Bouchette:

P Daniel Sepulveda says #steelers won’t bring him back.

My first reaction...

I must admit: this is no surprise.  Dan has a storied history of bad luck that began in college.  He originally walked onto the Baylor squad as a linebacker before converting over to punting duties.  Baylor was where he sustained his first of three ACL tears.  He went on to be a fourth round pick in 2007 and played a fine rookie season before tearing his ACL again at the start of his sophomore year.  Try as he might, Dan was unable to avoid the injury woes and hit the IR again near the end of the 2010-2011 season.

Seriously, how could you not like this guy?

Frankly, it was somewhat of a curiosity that Sepulveda was resigned to the Steelers for a one-year contract at the beginning of last season despite the signing of Kapinos and rookie Aaron Bates.  It just goes to show that the organization really did have faith in him, just not in his knee.  After yet another season ending injury in Week 8 of last season, there was simply nothing left that the Steelers could do.  It was inevitable…

A tribute.

Dan holds a very special place not only in my heart, but here at BB&G.  He was, in fact, the subject of our very first post over two years ago, and we willingly championed his cause throughout his tenure with the team.  Thus, it is with a greatest sadness that we say goodbye.  I believe I speak for all of Steeler Nation when I say: “Thank you, Dan, for giving nothing but your all.  Some things just aren’t meant to work out.  We wish you the best.”

Oh, what the heck? One more, for old time sake.
