The Steelers had their pre draft press conference today.  Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin talked about the plans for the draft.  They did state that it is not the strongest draft as they are only looking at a pool of 150 prospects.  They expected teams to go in their own direction earlier then usual because of talent level.  With that talent level the team does not think there are many guys who could help the team right away.

Colbert said only 7-10 players are surefire picks in this draft.  After that it could be pick and hope.  Colbert also stated that late in the draft there is a good possibility that most of those guys are practice squad guys.  They will not be able to help the team right away if they make the team at all.

Colbert called Wide Receiver and Cornerback the strongest points of this draft.  With the spread offense these two positions will be the strongest moving forward.  Both positions are deep.  The team thought that at the beginning of the process and they still do now.

As per usual reporters were shot down when asking about specific players.  Colbert will not talk about specific guys right now.  He does not want to show his hand.  He is keeping it tight to the vest right now.  There is only a few days until draft time.  He is not going to let on who he wants.

Colbert also stated that Mike Wallace would not change their draft plans.  Tomlin also said he was not worried about reports that Wallace may not show up.  He noted that there were so many reports about where Wallace was leaving for during the entire Free Agency process.  They expect him to be at camp and sign him long term.
