Steelers Predicted To Surprise The AFC North And Win The Division: 'Cream Of The Crop'
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers have experienced an exhilarating offseason, marked by several significant developments. However, regardless of the strides they've made, they face the formidable challenge of competing in the fiercely competitive AFC North in 2024. Widely regarded as one of the most robust divisions in the NFL, the AFC North is made up of the Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, and the Cincinnati Bengals, each contributing to its rich tapestry of intense rivalries and unforgettable moments.

While many acknowledge the Steelers as a formidable force in 2024, few are ready to declare them outright favorites. The prevailing sentiment places them as the division's fourth-best team, although dissenting voices exist. NFL Analyst Bucky Brooks recently shared his insights on NFL Network, articulating his belief in the Steelers' potential to ascend to the summit of the division.

"The Pittsburgh Steelers are the squad. The one thing we know, the Steelers are almost always going to be in the tournament. That's what they do. They always have winning seasons… and what they've done is they've been able to do a makeover while they can go back to the brand, meaning the guys they brought in - toughness, physicality, smarts - all work.”

The Steelers had a commendable offseason, marked by significant strides. Brooks' assertion stems from the Steelers' successful redefinition of their identity during this period. With the arrival of Arthur Smith as the Steelers new offensive coordinator, Brooks is confident that the Steelers can return to their authentic style of play, setting the stage for a promising season ahead.

"Arthur Smith coming in as the offensive coordinator, helping them find their way. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields upgrading the quarterback room. New offensive linemen… The Steelers are ready to get back to their style of football. I believe that at the end of the year, we're gonna be talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers being the cream of the crop in the AFC North.”

A couple of those significant offseason moves were made in their quarterback room, notably signing Russell Wilson to a one-year deal and acquiring Justin Fields for a conditional sixth-round pick. The expectation is for Wilson to assume the starting role, with Fields given the opportunity to compete for the position.

Bolstered by improvements in their offensive line and the arrival of Smith, the Steelers aim to return to their preferred style of play: ground and pound, complemented by effective play-action. A system that Wilson has proven to thrive in as well as Smith. Having running backs like Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren also will help them control the game and play the way they want.

Steelers' Russell Wilson Should Hold Up In The AFC North In 2024

With an influx of new faces and strategic personnel changes, the Steelers find themselves in a stronger position to vie for success within the division in 2024. However, the outcome remains uncertain, given the ruthless competition within the AFC North.

Notably, the Ravens boast Lamar Jackson, the Bengals have Joe Burrow, and the Browns have Deshaun Watson. The level of quarterback play within the division is ruthless. Nevertheless, with Wilson now leading the charge, the Steelers have a legitimate quarterback option as well.

While labeling the Steelers as division favorites may entail some risk, it's not an outlandish proposition. Under Mike Tomlin's leadership, the Steelers have maintained a consistent standard of competitiveness, never enduring a losing season. Their ability to compete and secure victories, regardless of the circumstances, is well-documented.

In 2024, with an improved situation at hand, the prospect of capturing the division title is within reach. The endorsement from analysts injects excitement among Steelers fans, who eagerly anticipate witnessing their revamped roster take on the challenges of the division in the upcoming season.
