Steelers Reportedly Working On Big First Round Trade With Broncos To Select Top Cornerback
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers' first-round selection strategy has been a hot topic for weeks leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft, as is typical. However, recent speculation suggests that if the Steelers engage in a significant trade on draft day, it may involve acquiring a wide receiver. A new report released on Tuesday unveils a different angle, indicating that the Steelers are actually keen on moving up the draft board to secure a cornerback.

“I'm told the Steelers and Broncos are talking trade as Pittsburgh is another team that is targeting Mitchell and would move up to draft him.”

The Steelers aren't alone in their pursuit of a trade with the Broncos to secure the highly sought-after cornerback. According to Pauline, the Philadelphia Eagles are also eager to strike a deal with the Broncos to position themselves to draft Mitchell.

Pauline did not disclose the compensation the Steelers would need to offer to leap from the 20th overall pick to the 12th. This maneuver mirrors their strategy from last draft when they traded up to acquire Broderick Jones.

Steelers 2024 Draft Could Shock Fans

As the 2024 draft approaches on Thursday and with Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin addressing the media, speculation abounds regarding the Steelers' draft strategy. The reality is, only those within the organization know the true plan. Steelers fans eagerly anticipate the unveiling of new additions to their team post-draft. However, even if a trade materializes and the Steelers select Mitchell at 12, it would address their cornerback need, but leave other significant gaps to fill.
