KANSAS CITY, MO - DECEMBER 06: Safety Brian Dawkins #20 of the Denver Broncos loses his helmet as he persues Leonard Pope #45 of the Kansas City Chiefs during the game on December 6, 2009 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images)

It did not take long into Leonard Pope’s visit for him to decide he wanted to be a Steeler.  The team announced the signing today of Pope.  Pope will be the back up tight end while Weslye Saunders is out on his four game suspension.  When Saunders returns they will most likely fight it out for the number two spot.

Pope has followed Haley everywhere now.  Pope played for Haley in Arizona and Kansas City.  Pope is now a Steeler on a one year deal.  This is not a bad addition for this team.  This makes tight end a less likely target in the draft.  With Miller, Saunders and Pope they should be set at the position.

This gives Ben Roethlisberger another red zone target.  The team struggled in that area last season and the addition of Pope should help the team out in that area.  This is a typical Steelers free agent signing.  Fill a hole with a non expensive guy who will help improve this team.
