Offensive tackle Bridger Buche signed a one-year deal on Monday with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to the Sentinel-Standard.
Buche, a rookie free-agent out of Eastern Michigan, will attend the Steelers’ training camp Wednesday with hopes of making the 55-man roster.
His father Matt Buche said that Bridger had a tryout with the Steelers on Friday. “After Coach Tomlin saw him, he complimented Bridger and told him he had very quick feet and that (quarterback) Charlie Batch will be happy to have another EMU alumni playing for us.”
“Bridger has already received a couple of Tweet’s from Batch congratulating him on being signed.”
The Steelers had an eye on Buche before. Thye called him during the draft to let him know they were considering him in the 6th round, but things didn't go as planned. Monday, an opportunity arose for him to climb aboard with the team just in time for training camp.
“They told his agent that he was their No. 1 guy in case there was an injury,” Matt Buche said. “Last week, they released a player and that opened a spot and they contacted Bridger.”
