As twelve teams prepare for the playoffs the Steelers have begun their off-season in typical fashion. The first mark of the off-season is the signing of players to reserves/futures contracts. Today the Steelers signed six players to such contracts marking the start of what will likely be a very busy off-season for the Steelers. The players signed today were offensive tackles Joe Long and Justin Cheadle, wide receivers Derek Moye and Bert Reed, and corner Isiah Green. All five spent at least some part of the 2012 season on the Steelers practice squad and will be, at least, training camp bodies for 2013. Along with the five listed the Steelers also signed Pittsburgh native Ross Ventrone, a safety who formerly played for the New England Patriots. Ventrone played for the Patriots during the 2010 season as an undrafted rookie free agent and again in 2011 before being cut during the Patriots 2012 training camp. Ventrone was not on an NFL roster during the 2012 regular season, but will give the Steelers another option at safety; a position they need to strengthen behind starters Troy Polamalu and Ryan Clark.   The post Steelers Sign Six Players to Reserves/Futures Contracts appeared first on SteelBlitz.

Steelers: Mike Wallace Unlikely to Return to Pittsburgh, Question is: Keep Plaxico Burress or Not?

The Pittsburgh Steelers are very unlikely to retain wide receiver Mike Wallace in free agency. Wallace will officially become a free agent in March and is expected to look for a large contract in the open market. During the 2012 off-season it was rumored that Wallace was looking for a contract that averages $11 million a year. With teams like the Miami Dolphins, who are need of a...

Steelers’ Todd Haley Will Interview for Cardinals Head Coaching Job; What Happens if he Leaves?

Todd Haley was the Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator in 2007 and 2008. He called the plays for the Cardinals offense that led them to Super Bowl 43; the only Super Bowl in franchise history. During his time with the Cardinals Haley formed a strong relationship with the Cardinals’ ownership. After the 2008 season Haley left the Cardinals to become the Kansas City Chiefs head...

Could the Steelers Place the Franchise/Transition Tag on Mike Wallace or Keenan Lewis?

The Steelers will have the franchise tag and transition tag at their disposal once again this off-season, but once again it is questionable as to whether they will choose to use either one. Of their free agents only two are deserving of the type of money that comes with either tag: corner Keenan Lewis and wide receiver Mike Wallace. Wallace will be an unrestricted free agent this...

There Were Some Positives for the Steelers This Year

When things aren’t going the way you want them to for extended periods of time it becomes very easy to get pessimistic. Criticizing becomes almost too easy and finding people to blame becomes as easy shooting fish in a barrel. I know I fell into this category during the 2012 Pittsburgh Steelers’ season of tumult which has seen our beloved black ‘n gold go 8-8 and miss the playoffs...

Which Positions Will The Steelers Look To Draft in 2013?

By Jeremy Hritz The NFL Draft is slowly becoming the focus for the Pittsburgh Steelers as the 2012 season nears completion and soon, end of the year evaluations of players will begin. The Steelers are a team that build through the draft, and in the 2013 season, the team will be counting on several of their previous draft picks to assert themselves in the starting line-up. The Pittsburgh Steelers Should Strongly Consider Going Offensive Line In The First Round Again In 2013

The Pittsburgh Steelers took highly rated guard David DeCastro out of Stanford with the 24th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. DeCastro was the number one rated guard in the draft and no one thought that he would drop that far to the Steelers. With that pick and the selection of center Maurkice Pouncey in 2010, the Steelers took an offensive lineman in the first round in two of...

2013 is here and unfortunately there will be no playoffs for the Pittsburgh Steelers. With the 2012 season behind us I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for all of the great support given to my site. The traffic tripled this year over last and I greatly appreciate that. Expecting a better Steelers season? Maybe next year

It's safe to assume most, if not all, Steelers fans are happy to see 2012 come to a close.  In a span of 12 months the Steelers lost to Tim Tebow in the wild card round of the playoffs, then went 8-8 missing the playoffs altogether the following season.Unfortunately, 2013 doesn't look promising either. For starters, the offense is going to take a step back.  Mike Wallace...

What If Todd Haley Gets The Cardinals Job – An “If’s & But’s” Post

Ah, "if's and but's." Unless you live under a rock you should know by now that Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley is scheduled to interview with the Arizona Cardinals for their vacant head coaching position later on this week.
