It’s quite often the one area of football that is most often overlooked by the casual fan and sometimes even the most ardent fan. I’m speaking of special teams of course or as many football people refer to it as, “the third phase.” It is many times the part of the game that can ultimately be the biggest. Accurate punters can dictate field position while return men can flip the field in their team’s favor in the blink of an eye. You can pretty much bank on the Pittsburgh Steelers looking significantly different on Special Teams in two or three key areas in 2012. It’s already been made clear that Antonio Brown will focus more on being a number two receiver and will be used less in the return game. This means Emmanuel Sanders will pick up the lion’s share of those duties. Sanders does a nice job returning kicks but Brown is clearly better and more explosive. When Santonio Holmes was still with the Steelers he was back there any time a crucial return was needed, even if just for the sak...

Options If The Steelers Are Forced To Move On From Mike Wallace

By Cian Fahey It is unlikely that Mike Wallace leaves the Pittsburgh Steelers when free agency begins next week but the chance remains as Wallace is a restricted free agent (breaking news I know). In my mind, there are two teams who could likely make a run at Wallace. Those teams are the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers. If the Patriots sign Wallace, the Steelers will...

GM Kevin Colbert Represented Steelers Wednesday At Alabama Pro Day

Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert was present for the 2012 University of Alabama pro day Wednesday as were reps for the other 31 teams in the league. While several draft worthy players worked out for all in attendance, one could easily speculate that Colbert was there to mostly watch linebacker Dont'a Hightower, who reportedly only went through a few of the drills...
IT'S A FAKE

TV station falls for Hines Ward hoax

A Pittsburgh TV station fell for a fake story, reporting on-air that Hines Ward had signed with one of the Steelers' rivals.

Middle Linebacker perhaps not such an immediate need for Steelers?

There are two draft picks that everyone seems to have the Steelers interested in since the combine, if not before. Dontari Poe appears to get further and further out of sight by the day with many experts saying he’s a top 15 pick by now. The more realistic name is Dont’a Hightower, LB out of Alabama. Of course you can still make a case for an offensive lineman in round one but...

Bubble Bursting: Steelers Will Not Be Interested In Brandon Jacobs

I feel like today is a good day to put out free agent fire before it gets started, just like I did at this same time last year with Tiki Barber. This year it is another former New York Giants running back that will have at least half of Steeler Nation frothing at the mouth after he was released today by the Super Bowl champions. Jacobs will turn 30 years of age in July and his best...

Pittsburgh TV station reported Hines Ward was signed by the Ravens

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, during the 6am morning news on Wednesday, WPXI-TV morning anchor Todd McDermott reported that Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Hines Ward had signed with the Baltimore Ravens. “We’re a little in shock,” Mr. McDermott said to co-anchor Jennifer Abney per the Post-Gazette. What’s really funny is that Ward hasn’t even been officially released...

Pittsburgh TV station falls for Hines Ward-to-Ravens spoof report

The 6 o’clock morning news at WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh found itself in an embarrassing situation Wednesday morning after it erroneously reported as fact a satirical story by BroCouncil.com saying that beloved former Steelers receiver Hines Ward signed with the bitter divisional-rival Ravens. Here’s news anchor Todd McDermott first mentioning the “report” in passing as the broadcast...

Clark reaffirms notion of watch what you tweet

Each and every one of us has been in the unenviable position of having stuck our foot in our respective mouths before. If you haven’t, then you’re perfect and can stop reading. Unfortunately for some, there is a bigger spotlight which shines directly onto their mouths and makes everything they utter larger then it probably should be. These individuals of course are politicians...

Steelers 2012 salary cap numbers released soon

By Christina Rivers It's the numbers that many have been waiting for, and according to Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network, the National Football League is nearly set to release them to all 32 team by the end of the week.  La Canfora posted on Twitter: La Canfora admitted he'd like to see the numbers be over the $120M this season.  Many teams probably feel the same way...

The Samurai and Larry

With the parting of ways with James Farrior, inside linebacker becomes a position of keen interest. Larry Foote is the obvious choice of the moment to step into the shoes of the departed Potsie. Larry is one of those guys you can’t dismiss because he’s a gamer, one who’s “game brains” or understanding of [...]

The Terrible Podcast – Talking Peyton Manning, Free Agency & Pro Days Episode

Season 2, Episode 85 of The Terrible Podcast is up and with David Todd and with not a lot of Steelers news to discuss since the Tuesday podcast, we touch one last time on the Mike Wallace situation quickly as we turn our attention more to free agency around the league in general. Of course the biggest free agent on the market right now is Peyton Manning and we discuss him along with...

Ben on tweaking his game: “Just stay healthy. That is it.”

There’s been much to analyze this offseason for the Steelers, and quite frankly over analyze too. Amidst all of the Ben and Haley comedic rhetoric to the more serious issue of player cuts and restructures, was the comments of Art Rooney II on Ben Roethlisberger needing to “tweak his game”. That alone has been worth an exponential amount of discussion among every member of the...

Pittsburgh Steelers: Mewelde Moore Is All About His Team and Kids

In the football world, wearing the black and gold can be compared to garnering a badge of honor.  An honor free agent running back Mewelde Moore proudly holds in high regard as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Other than having the privilege to play for the Steelers and having a successful career in the NFL, Moore appreciates another opportunity, which is far more important...

5 Potential Targets on Defense for the Steelers in Free Agency

Free Agency starts next Tuesday March 13th.  The Steelers are strapped tight with cash.  After signing all of their restricted free agents and working towards a deal with Mike Wallace the Steelers will not have much to spend.  They will not be big players in free agency.  There are some guys out there who could come cheap and help this team out in 2012.  They could also fill...

Steelers Round Up: Fishing, Motorcycles and Hockey

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks in the Steelers organization, but this week has been relatively quiet.  But all the guys have been busy. Big Ben has been doing some fishing with former Steeler Merril Hoge. With all the nice weather this week, it looks like James Harrison is thinking about breaking out the motorcycle. Thinking about pulling out the bike for a minute!!! ...
