The Pittsburgh Steelers are suing a western Pennsylvania man who has been making knock-offs of the "Terrible Towel" in different languages. The team owns the "Terrible Towel" trademark.

Nick Rossi of Ligonier says he began making the towels to raise money for Italian earthquake victims a few years ago. He then expanded the towels to include them in Spanish and Hebrew, but he counters that his towels are a "new and improved version" which do not infringe on the original.

“When I made these towels, I thought they were a new and improved version of their towel, and I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to do that,” said Rossi.

He got rid of the "Terrible" in his towels after getting cease-and-desist letters from the team. “If the new ones bother you, send me another letter,” he said.

The lawsuit accuses him of trademark infringement, unfair competition and racketeering.
