Steelers’ TJ Watt Is Thankful Pittsburgh Finally Has A Quarterback: 'I’m Just Glad We Have One'
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Additionally, the franchise orchestrated a successful trade to acquire the promising and young quarterback, Justin Fields. These acquisitions represent calculated risks with the potential for substantial rewards, positioning the Steelers for an exciting season ahead.

Despite being a powerhouse on the field, Steelers' star linebacker TJ Watt has faced playoff challenges throughout his NFL career. During the prestigious 101 NFL Awards ceremony, Watt shared his insights with FOX4 Kansas City, shedding light on the team's offseason maneuvers.

“I’m excited for both of them. To be able to have some big time new faces and guys who have played at a high level — especially Russ, a guy whose won a Super Bowl — in the locker room. I’m just hoping that I can learn something from those guys and hopefully, show them how things are done in Pittsburgh as well, what we’ve been doing.”

Watt's journey with the Steelers began when he was drafted in the first round, 30th overall, during the 2017 NFL Draft. Seven seasons have passed since then, yet despite his remarkable contributions, postseason victories have remained elusive. The Steelers' last taste of playoff success dates back to January 15, 2017, in a thrilling AFC Divisional Game against the Kansas City Chiefs, which ended in an 18 to 16 victory. It was in the offseason following this memorable win that Watt joined the team, fueled by hopes of further triumphs.

With the postseason drought looming over the franchise, Watt looks to the arrival of Wilson and Fields with anticipation, believing that both quarterbacks may be the key to overcoming this prolonged dry spell.

“I haven’t won a playoff game my whole career, so I’m open to any type of information, where we can continue to get better. Hopefully, those guys can help us do that.”

Navigating the rough waters of the AFC North is no easy feat. Despite the Steelers' significant upgrades this offseason, pundits continue to place them as underdogs, with the odds stacked against them to finish at the bottom of the division. In light of this daunting outlook, Watt finds solace in the fact that the Steelers now boast a formidable quarterback, providing them with a renewed sense of competitiveness and a fighting chance in the fierce AFC North battles ahead.

“It’s tough. It’s a very tough, competitive league,” Watt said. “There’s so much parity, especially in our division. You look at all the quarterbacks. I’m just glad that we have one. It’s all about staying healthy and being on the rise. And that’s what we have to do this year.”

Steelers Finally Have A Quarterback According To TJ Watt

The AFC North boasts an abundance of talent, showcasing formidable quarterbacks like Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Deshaun Watson. Watt holds firm in his belief that with Wilson leading the charge, the Steelers are now equipped to contend with these formidable rivals.

While he refrains from directly criticizing Kenny Pickett, Watt expresses his relief at the Steelers' newfound stability at the quarterback position. With anticipation building among Steeler Nation, the arrival of the 2024 season cannot come soon enough.
