The Pittsburgh Steelers enter the season with a lot of attention on their quarterbacks. However, in the Steelers’ minds and hearts, they’ll play the year one less in the QB room. On Friday, the team announced they’ll honor the late Dwayne Haskins with a yellow No. 3 helmet decal for the 2022 season.

Haskins died on April 9 when a dump truck struck him on foot along Interstate 595 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Haskins was looking for a gas station after his vehicle ran out of gas. He was 24 years old.

Haskins was in Florida training with his Steelers teammates, including Week 1 starter Mitchell Trubisky.

The Steelers have since drafted Kenny Pickett in the first round of this year’s draft.

Haskins was a first-round draft pick of the Washington Commanders in 2019. He starred in college at Ohio State, throwing a Big Ten record 50 touchdowns in 2018. In Washington, Haskins started 13 games for Washington before being released in his second year there. He opted to sign with the Steelers over other options, including the Carolina Panthers going into last year’s offseason.

He served as the No. 3 quarterback behind Ben Roethlisberger and backup Mason Rudolph for the 2021 season.

Haskins had a second chance to re-establish his pro career before his death. Many reflected on his impact on them in the aftermath of his death.

It’s his impact that will remain with his teammates in Pittsburgh. Therefore, they’ll give remembrance of Haskins with the yellow helmet decal.
