During the several interviews that Pittsburgh Steelers GM Kevin Colbert has given over the course of this week, the name of wide reciver Mike Wallace continues to pop up a lot in the questioning. Wallace of course is a restricted free agent, who at worst will receive a first round tender of around $2.742 million. That tender would allow the Steelers ability to match whatever offer sheet is given by another team that wants to sign Wallace or receive a first round draft pick from that team should they decide not to, or they can't match it. In one of his first interview this week, Colbert said Read more [...]

Fitting Mike Wallace Under The Steelers 2012 Salary Cap While Wearing Franchise Tag

Since my last post on Mike Wallace, as it relates to trying to protect him via free agency, I have had a few questions about how the Steelers can possibly fit Wallace underneath the cap by the start of the new league year if they indeed were to place the franchise tag of $9.4 million on him. Let's assume that the Steelers tender all of their other restricted free agents and...

Can Steelers afford Mike Wallace?

Mike Wallace is a restricted free agent and the Steelers will have to make some moves in order to keep him long term. Will they?

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert Says They Are Going To Protect Interest In Mike Wallace

Pittsburgh Steelers GM Kevin Colbert is continuing his media rounds this week and has granted several interviews as of late. On Thursday morning he talked to 105.9 The X and was asked again about the status of Hines Ward, Mike Wallace, Rashard Mendenhall and the hiring of Todd Haley. Below is the transcript of the interview and you can hear the full interview below. Re: Craziest...

Cost of first round tender and franchising Mike Wallace

Starting on Monday, February 20th, NFL teams can begin using their Franchise Tag if they choose. It’s not required that a player be tagged on this date, it’s simply the earliest they can use it. There will be some teams that jump on this right away I’m sure. It’s very unlikely the Steelers will tag Mike Wallace immediately but they have about 3 weeks yet until the March 13th...

Steelers may lose Mike Wallace in free agency

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Pittsburgh Steelers will have a hard time re-signing wide receiver Mike Wallace who’ll be a restricted free agent once March 13th comes around. Schefter indicated on NFL Live that the Steelers are currently $11 million over the salary cap and the Bengals have $60 million in cap space.  Not to say Wallace will go to the Bengals, but if they...

The Terrible Podcast – Talking Mike Wallace Possibilities Episode

Season 2, Episode 78 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I dive right into the hot topics and news this week. We start off with a lengthy discussion centered around the pending free agency of Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace and cover a lot of scenarios I posted on Thursday. We talk about what teams might be interested in Wallace if they feel him worthy...

Wallace isn’t the only receiver the Steelers need to worry about for the future

There are many tough decisions that the Steelers must deal with this offseason, not the least of which is trying to sign Mike Wallace to a long term deal.   If worse comes to worse they can franchise him to help ensure his services for another season, thus giving them more time to work on a long term deal.  They’ve used their franchise tag in a similar manner in the past, on...

Should Ravens try to acquire Steelers’ Wallace?

I was watching ESPN’s “SportsCenter” and “NFL Live” this afternoon and the topic was restricted free agent Mike Wallace of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers could have a tough time retaining the third-year wide receiver if they place a first-round restricted tender on him. Tim Hasselbeck suggested the Ravens could sign him away from Pittsburgh by offering the speedster...

Creative team with WR needs could pry Wallace away from Steelers

Any team eyeing Mike Wallace might have to give up a first-round pick to the Steelers. Prohibitive? Not for clubs near the bottom of the round with holes at wide receiver and cap space to burn, Pat Kirwan says.

Patriot's Mailbag: Laron Landry May Be Answer to Patriots' Problems on Defense

This is how to start the offseason. We've got a jam-packed mailbag this week that focuses heavily on the Patriots' philosophy as they move forward to their team-building dynamic for 2012. Thanks to everyone who submitted questions, and remember, I'll have a mailbag every Friday throughout the offseason. How does the restricted free agent process work? Could the Patriots...

Steelers Have A “50/50″ Chance Of Losing WR Mike Wallace?

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweets that “someone in the league” has the odds of an NFL team trying to sign WR Mike Wallace away from the Pittsburgh Steelers at “50-50.” Schefter notes that the Steelers are roughly $11 million over the salary cap despite making cuts and renegotiating numerous players contracts so far. In the past, the highest tender for a restricted free agent required...
