The Steelers were “excited” when they got to draft David DeCastro.  It seems like they may have been a little antsy as well when getting ready to select him.  There is a rumor running around right now that the Steelers were planning on trading up to the number 16 pick with the Jets to get DeCastro.  I may have been yelling the same thing at the TV.

It appears that the Steelers and I were thinking on the same lines.  I thought they needed to get in front of Cincinnati to get DeCastro.  The Bengals had 2 major needs.  They were cornerback and guard.  With DeCastro being a top 10 prospect I was nervous the Bengals would grab him.  It turned out that they would pick Dre Kirkpatrick.  We lucked out but I would not have complained if we would have made the move.

It looked like the Steelers could have made the move.  The Jets were interested in Quinton Coples and Bruce Irvin.  They were planning on trading back and still being able to get one of the guys.  When Irvin went off the board to the Seahawks right before the Jets came on the board the Jets pulled away from the trade to take Coples.  They did not want to lose their guy.

To move up that far the Steelers would have had to give up their third round pick at a minimum.  If you go by the draft chart the team would have needed to give up its third and fourth round pick.  That chart really is not as accurate as it used to be.  It used to be a baseline but now it is just a guide.  Teams go outside of it to make trades all the time.  Our third round pick would definitely have been worth it.

Just the fact that the Steelers were ready to make the move is what makes me more excited.  The fact the team was ready to make the move to get a guy of this caliber says enough.  Even though we could not make the move we got DeCastro anyways.  Sometimes it is just meant to be.

Big Ben believes 49ers targeted him

Ben Roethlisberger said he "felt like there were some things going on, some extra” targeting of his bum ankle when the Steelers played the 49ers last season.

As Roethlisberger goes so do the Steelers

Ben Roethlisberger is the starting quarterback of a team that is known for stellar, top notch defense. With names such as Jack Lambert, Joe Greene, Franco Harris, James Harrison, Troy Polamalu the Steelers legacy has always been on the defensive side of the ball. Big Ben has changed this thinking because no one in the NFL, not named Peyton, is as crucial to his team's success...
