The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Washington Redskins 27-12 Sunday at Heinz Field and below are my first half notes from the game with the second half notes to follow soon. A nice start by Jonathan Dwyer as he turns a possible stuff into positive yardage. The fake bubble screen that resulted in an explosive play to Heath Miller was nicely designed and well executed. The first catch by Mike Wallace on the opening drive was a bullet from Ben Roethlisberger. Wallace knew where the sticks were and the Steelers move the chains. Roethlisberger converts to Emmanuel Sanders after he ran a nice pivot Read more [...]

Dwyer with another 100 yd performance in Steelers win over Redskins, 27-12

This year has been a transition year for the Steelers; figuring out just what exactly is “Steelers Football” has been tough to say the least, but Jonathan Dwyer and the offensive line are trying to clear things up. On a day where the division rival Ravens were on a bye, the Steelers seized the opportunity to gain ground in the AFC North and Dwyer was a big part of that. For the...

Steelers defense, Roethlisberger strong at home again

I missed all of the first half and most of the second half of this one preparing for Frankstorm, but the Steelers defense put down another dominant performance at Heinz Field, where they've only lost once since the start of the 2011 season. The Steelers suffocated Robert Griffin III in a 27-12 win. RGIII was being called the "best player in football" by some heading...

Jonathan Dwyer Likely Week 9 Starter if Healthy

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette expects the Steelers to start Jonathan Dwyer at running back again in Week 9 versus the Giants if his quad holds up. Dwyer won't practice Wednesday, however.Fantasy Spin:Dwyer has rushed for back-to-back 100-yard game and is averaging 5.2 ypc on 58 runs this season. Rashard Mendenhall (Achilles) will go through individual workouts Wednesday and will...

Jonathan Dwyer & Mike Adams Continue To Shine

With their 27-12 win Sunday over the Washington Redskins, the Pittsburgh Steelers have now put together back-to-back wins for the first time this season and part of that credit goes to rookie tackle Mike Adams and third-year running back Jonathan Dwyer. Both Adams and Dwyer started for a second week in a row on Sunday and both played well above the line. Adamsdid not allow a sack...

NFL Rumors: Have Pittsburgh Steelers Finally Found Their Lead Running Back In Jonathan Dwyer?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a long tradition of trotting out workhorse lead running backs who lead them to the Super Bowl. From the days of Franco Harris, Jerome Bettis, Willie Parker and countless others, the Steelers have enjoyed great success on the ground. They though that had found it again with Rashard Mendenhall, although his season ending injury last year may have opened...

Ben Roethlisberger Hits Ref in the Head With Pass (Video)

Big Ben Roethlisberger just plunking the referee in the head with a pass like it ain't no thing.  Don't make a bad call against the Steelers or you know what you're up against.  I just can't wait until he tries to pull that on Ed Hochuli and Ed tosses him in the torture rack until he taps out.   Video of the pass below if you missed it. P.S. Am I the...

Dink & Dunk Steelers Offense? Why Not Call It The Upright Offense Instead?

Many like to call the new offense of the Pittsburgh Steelers a "dink and dunk" one, but perhaps a better name for it would be an "upright" offense. Upright because that is exactly what quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been for a good part of this season. Through the first 7 games of the season Roethlisberger has been sacked only 13 times. He is on pace to be...

Steelers Winners And Losers – Week 8 – Redskins

The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Washington Redskins 27-12 Sunday at Heinz Field and are now 4-3 on the season. Below are the players, or group of players, that I thought had winning performances in the game and 3 more players that deserve a little slap on the wrist. Ben Roethlisberger - Roethlisberger was surgical-like from the very beginning of the game on his way to a 24-of-33...

Steelers Injury Report: Ryan Clark Practices Fully, Jonathan Dwyer Rest Quad

The Pittsburgh Steelers were back on the practice field Wednesday as they prepare to take on the New York Giants Sunday at MetLife Stadium. The first injury report of the week is now out, and as expected, safety Troy Polamalu (calf) and tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle), and linebacker Stevenson Sylvester (hamstring) did not practice. Both Polamalu and Gilbert have already been ruled...

RG3 No Match For BR7 As Steelers Beat Redskins 27-12 – Game Recap

There was some great quarterback play Sunday and it didn't come from the well talked about, and highly hyped, Washington Redskins rookie Robert Griffin III as Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was head and shoulders better than the one that they call RG3 at Heinz Field. Roethlisberger was 24-of-33 for 222 yards with three touchdowns on Sunday as the Steelers...

Time For Big Ben Roethlisberger to Get Abused Week 9

TweetHere is a message from the New York Giants to Big Ben Roethlisberger. It's time for Big Ben to be the one who gets ABUSED! He isn't playing defenseless girls and they won't be playing Sunday's game at a nightclub! He will be seeing a heavy doze of Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul (JPP).

Steelers Running Back Situation Remains Unclear

Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall has been cleared and can start participating individual drills. It’s a step in the right direction for the Steelers as last weeks starter Jonathan Dwyer was held out of practice on Tuesday and could return Thursday as he nurses a quad strain, per Ed Douchette. At this point, it’s unknown if Mendenhall will be able to play Sunday as he...

Steelers 27, Redskins 12

PITTSBURGH -- Robert Griffin III might be the freshly anointed one, but Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers showed the Washington Redskins rookie quarterback what an elite performance looks like. Roethlisberger was an efficient 24 of 33 for 222 yards and three touchdowns, Jonathan Dwyer carried 17 times for 107 yards, and Pittsburgh's defense stymied Griffin to win...

Breaking Down The Fake Bubble Screen Play Against The Redskins

I have always gotten a kick out of how much abuse an offensive coordinator gets for calling a bubble screen. Whenever anyone would comment negatively on Bruce Arians during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, you can bet that bubble screens were almost always listed as one of their dislikes, despite the overall success the play had, and how it was used to set up other passing...

The Terrible Podcast – Steelers Redskins Game Recap Episode

Season 3, Episode 35 of The Terrible Podcast is up and co-host David Todd and I get right after it Monday morning as we recap the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-12 win Sunday over the Washington Redskins at Heinz Field. We start with a look at the Steelers first offensive possession and zero in specifically on the fake bubble screen play that went to tight end Heath Miller for big yardage...
