According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers plan on restructuring the contracts of both Ben Roethlisberger and Lawrence Timmons to help them get under the salary cap. The Steelers could get Roethlisberger’s deal done by the end of the week, per Albert Breer of the NFL Network. Roethlisberger is scheduled to carry a prohibitive cap figure of $19.595 million in 2013, and theSteelers are working through tricky waters in regard to the salary cap, which is expected to land between $122 million and $123 million for this season. The Steelers, as it stands right now, have 10 players accounting for just over $100 million in cap space, and linebacker James Harrison (2013 cap hit: $10.035 million) is one player the team has been trying to make a decision on. At this point, the expectation is that Roethlisberger’s deal will be renegotiated, not extended. TheSteelers’ precedent has been to extend quarterbacks with two years left on their contracts, and that would mean Roethlisberger could get a new deal next offseason. A Steelers source simply said nothing is done yet.   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = 'http://widget.crowdignite.com/widgets/27484?_ci_wid=_CI_widget_'+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })();
