Adam Caplan reported via Twitter on Wednesday that the Pittsburgh Steelers recently brought in free agent defensive backs Terrence Johnson, Dominique Franks and Akwasi Owusu-Ansah for workouts. The reason for the workouts was likely due to cornerback Curtis Brown and safety Robert Golden being dinged up in the preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers. Brown injured a knee in that game, while Golden suffered some sort of hamstring injury. Both players have practiced fully this week and neither showed up on the Wednesday injury report. At worst, the Steelers now have three names in their Read more [...]

Steelers TE Heath Miller Heads Into 2012 Flying Way Under The Radar

There is one player on the Pittsburgh Steelers offense that has flown way under the radar this offseason and that is tight end Heath Miller. Upon his arrival to the Steel City, new offensive coordinator Todd Haley mentioned Miller by name first during his introductory press conference when he called Miller "one of my favorite players." Head coach Mike Tomlin would...

Report: New Deal For Mike Wallace Not Close As Season Creeps Closer

According to a report this morning by Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the Pittsburgh Steelers are nowhere close to getting a new long-term deal done with wide receiver Mike Wallace prior to the start of the season. Bouchette credits the info to the infamous, source close to the situation. While the final grains of sand are slowly trickling through the skinny part...

On the Steelers; 10-6 Just Seems Right This Season

What kind of writer, blogger or so-called ‘expert’ would I be if I didn’t tell you my thoughts on how the Pittsburgh Steelers will fare this year and why? Normally, I really hate these types of pieces because it’s just so hard to see what the future holds especially as it pertains to injuries, team chemistry and the opposition. Nevertheless, I feel compelled so onward I go…...

Steelers Wallace, Brown, Starks, and Gilbert must win one on one matchups vs Broncos

Something that former Steelers Head Coach Bill Cowher used to day, “get a hat on a hat”, is probably embedded in the minds of Steeler fans for all of eternity. We heard it so many times it was like a broken record, but he preached doing so because of the importance of beating your man, taking care of your responsibility on the field. Doing so leads to success, plain and simple...

Stephen A. Smith Blast Ike Taylor & James Harrison On ESPN First Take

Loud mouth Stephen A. Smith gave the Pittsburgh Steelers, and more specifically, cornerback Ike Taylor, some bulletin board material this morning on ESPN First Take. When  Smith and co-host Skip Bayless got to the part of the show where they broke down the Steelers opener Sunday night against the Denver Broncos, Smith went off on Taylor and used him as a reason why the Broncos...

Can the Pittsburgh Steelers Soar to Seventh Super Bowl?

I’ll be the first to tell you that the Steelers’ window is closing.  11 of the 13 players with 9 years’ experience or more are starters, including their star QB and 2-time Super Bowl winner “Big” Ben Roethlisberger.  The remaining 2 on that list are both of his backup signal callers.   All the starters in that elite secondary have 10 years or more in the league except...

Breaking Down the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 53-Man Roster

With the season opener in Denver now only 5 days away, the Pittsburgh Steelers have cut down to the 53-man roster that will open the season.  The job was made a bit simpler in an unfortunate fashion in the final preaseason game when 3rd round pick LB Sean Spence went down with a torn everything in his knee, an injury that landed him on IR.  TE Weslye Saunders will miss the first...

Steelers player to watch: Chris Rainey

Expect to see Pittsburgh Steelers rookie RB Chris Rainey in the end zone often this season while turning a lot of heads around the NFL.

Rashard Mendenhall was a full go at practice

According to Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice. If the Steelers are already having Mendenhall fully practicing, we now know why they didn’t place him on the PUP list heading into the regular season.  I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a few carries this week.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Missing Ryan Clark A Big Blow To Defense

A day after Steelers linebacker James Harrison told reporters that his surgically repaired knee was “A-OK” for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, the 2008 defensive player of the year was limited in practice Wednesday and his status for Sunday is now uncertain.Missing Harrison would be a big blow to the Steelers, but his absence would not be the biggest problem the Pittsburgh...

Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall Officially Doubtful For Week 1

A week of overly encouraging reports about Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall has ended with a sensible and pretty much expected result: Mendenhall is listed as doubtful for Sunday night's matchup with the Broncos. Source: FFToolbox.com Attached Thumbnails

Will Pittsburghs James Harrison Face The Broncos? Can He Get To Peyton Manning?

The Pittsburgh Steelers are wondering if James Harrison’s knee will let him play Sunday when the Steelers take on Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos Sunday afternoon. Harrison has nursed a sore knee for the past couple weeks and he could be held out of the game. If Harrison is able to play in the Mile High city and he can get to Manning how many hits can Manning take and continue...

Steelers Place OG David DeCastro On Injured Reserve

The Pittsburgh Steelers placed rookie guard David DeCastro on injured reserve with a designation to return. DeCastro, who suffered a knee injury in the third preseason game at Buffalo, will be eligible to return after spending at least eight weeks on IR. The Steelers selected the Stanford product with the 24th overall pick in April's draft. To fill the roster spot, the...
