Steve Smith Hurt in Evening Practice on Monday

Carolina Panther wide receiver Steve Smith was carted off the field Monday night after the late practice session during training camp at Spartanburg S.C. According to multiple sources, Smith was jumping up for a pass when he collided in mid-air with defensive back Chris Gamble, and landed awkwardly on his right arm. Smith grabbed his shoulder and dropped to his knees in obvious pain. Moments later he stood up and kicked his helmet across the field in frustration. After walking to the sidelines, he was carted off into the locker room. It was reported that the incident happened at approx. 8:00 PM. Smith has been instrumental in the Panthers' multiple playoff runs during the last few seasons. In 2008, despite missing the first two games of the season, Smith caught 78 passes for 1421 yds. with 6 TD's.
