The New York Giants have been free of controversy and little attention has been given to them, even though they are the Super Bowl champs. At least, that was the truth until this weekend when a video emerged of Jason Pierre-Paul dropping Prince Amukamura into a cold tub. It originally appeared to be just locker room nonsense, but members of the media started crowing that it was bullying. Their reasoning probably had something to do with the fact of Amukamura being a 2nd year player. Had Amukamura been a rookie, it most likely would have been considered as hazing. Punter Steve Weatherford posted the video, and has since apologized for it.

“I want to apologize to the fans,” Weatherford said on Twitter. “The video I posted was distasteful. Our team is a family, and we love each other. I am sorry to the fans.”

Outside of the nasty language that is said, which is also typical of the NFL locker room, I am not sure what is so offensive over the video. Tom Coughlin is reportedly ticked off about it. My guess is that he is more pissed off that the incident went public. Amukamura had been dropped in the cold tub eight times as a rookie.

There are those saying this is evidence of possible dissension in the Giants locker room. Which seems like a reach. It is surprising how much time has been taken up over this. The NFL doesn’t care enough to get involved, which means even they realize this is nonsense.

While they understand the public's concern over what might be perceived as an apparent hazing incident involving Prince Amukamara, several New York Giants insist that throwing the second-year cornerback into a tub of ice water was a football tradition and not bullying.
