From the time he voided his contract with the Rams, it only took about a week for Steven Jackson to find work. Though, in that time, the 29-year-old running back considered an alternative: following in the footsteps one of his idols and former greats. “I was thinking about maybe retiring,” Jackson admitted to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution . “I really considered that. … I really contemplated ‘do I continue to play football’ or ‘do I retire.’ That’s one thing I admire about Barry Sanders.” On March 7, Jackson voided his contract with the Rams, leaving the only team he'd known in his professional career. • The philosophy of Mike Smith is to run up the score in the first half and then get conservative, play absolutely no defense in the second half, and then hang on for dear life. Most of Atlanta's games were won on field goals in the last-minute against one of the easiest schedules in the NFL. And of course, if they needed more than a field goal then count the Birds out. I was a Falcon's season ticket holder for five years and finally gave up on the team. If they would have gotten rid of Smith I most likely would have renewed my tickets. However, being from Pittsburgh and a "huge" Steeler fan.....this Falcons team wouldnt fly in that part of the country. The Steelers believe that defense wins Championships while the Falcons believe defense should be non-existent. And of course, that is why Pittsburgh owns six Lombardi trophies and the Falcons have yet to hoist one. As long as Smith is there I fear the Falcons will never "RISE UP" to the top.
