Due a total of $7 million this season, St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson voided the final year of his contract on Thursday, sending him into the free agent market for the first time in his eight year career. The reason for Jackson’s departure wasn’t exactly hard to figure out. At the ripe age of 29, he wants his chance at a Lombardi Trophy now. And the Rams probably can’t offer Jackson that this season, or the next. The potential market for Jackson is also just as simple. In a pool that offers next to nothing, Jackson sits alongside Rashard Mendenhall and Ahmad Bradshaw as the top backs up for offers. But while Jackson says he wants to play for a contender, he still remains picky.
