NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Ryan Succop delivered a huge kick in the gut to the reeling New Orleans Saints. Succop kicked six field goals, one to force overtime in the final seconds and another from 31 yards to lift the Kansas City Chiefs to a 27-24 victory over the Saints, who remain winless through three games since coach Sean Payton was suspended in connection with the NFL's bounty investigation. Succop's 43-yard field goal with 3 seconds left completed a methodical comeback by Kansas City (1-2) after the Saints had cashed in on a pair of Chiefs turnovers to go ahead 24-6 in the third quarter. In storming back to win for the first time this season, Kansas City needed only one touchdown, a 91-yard run by Jamaal Charles, who finished with 233 yards rushing and 55 yards receiving. The Chiefs also got a safety in the fourth quarter on Justin Houston's third sack of the game. Drew Brees passed for 240 yards and three touchdowns, but missed all six of his passes through the fo...

Three Things: Chiefs vs. Saints

All good things came in three's today so why stop the flow now. It was whacky improbable and hard fought. But the Chiefs prevailed over the Saints thanks to six field goals by kicker Ryan Succop.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. New Orleans: Five Things We Learned

Week 3 brought us a match-up between two teams desperately in search of their first win. The New Orleans Saints played host to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday. After losing by at least two touchdowns in their first games of the season, the Chiefs found themselves in the same predicament well into the third quarter against the Saints. However, Kansas...

Chiefs suddenly have new life after beating Saints

The Chiefs were trailing New Orleans 24-6, well on their way to a third straight humiliating defeat. Then the defense stiffened, Jamaal Charles started to gouge the Saints for big yards and Kansas City suddenly has new life. The Chiefs (1-2) will try to build on the momentum generated by the 27-24 overtime thriller next Sunday when they face the San Diego Chargers in an AFC West...

Brees: Saints urgently need consistency

(Eds: Updates throughout. With AP Photos.) By BRETT MARTEL AP Sports Writer Drew Brees readily acknowledges he is an eternal optimist - and won't buy into the notion that an 0-3 record is proof the Saints are doomed without suspended coach Sean Payton. When he reviewed video on Monday of New Orleans' collapse in a 27-24 overtime loss to Kansas City a day earlier, he took...

Saints Nation: Saints' Defensive and Special Teams Player Grades vs. Chiefs

Another game, another woeful performance by the defense. They were gashed for 510 yards and will continue their dominance as dead last in the NFL as a unit. They only gave up one touchdown, though, and honestly they played well enough to earn this team a win this week. They were bad, don't get me wrong, but it was an improvement over the first two weeks. Yes, 510 yards is shocking...

Week 3 NFL Preview: Kansas City Chiefs at New Orleans Saints

Coaching, contrary to popular belief, is important. Don’t believe me? Check the Saints 0-2 record to start 2012. No Sean Payton = No wins. It’s been that simple. Romeo Crennel, as solid of a coach as he may be, is also off to a 0-2 start which has left some scratching their heads. They haven’t had the toughest of starts schedule wise yet they come into Week 3 winless heading...

not so easy in the Big Easy

Everybody knew that Peyton Manning is great, but perhaps it took us witnessing the team without him last year to realize just how valuable he is. We are getting the same thing this year with the other Payton (with an “a”), Sean, the coach of the Saints. In a season already filled with surprises, the biggest shocker in Week 3 is the same thing from the opener, how disappointing...
