Ndamukong Suh is back in the middle of a controversy because of a questionable, if not dirty, play in Sunday's game. Suh usually waits for Thanksgiving for these types of incidents. This time, it came in the regular-season opener. The play being debated took place early in the second quarter when Suh's teammate, DeAndre Levy, intercepted a pass and returned it for an apparent touchdown in the Lions' 34-24 victory over Minnesota. The TD, however, was taken off the board because of an illegal block by Suh, who lunged at the knee of Vikings offensive lineman John Sullivan. The attempted block appeared to be completely unnecessary because Sullivan had no chance of catching Levy. "You can't take a dude's legs out from behind on an interception when he's running down the field," Sullivan's teammate, defensive end Jared Allen, told reporters. "There's just no room for that. "It's sad to see. He's (Suh) really a decent dude. He plays hard. I like his style of play, but if you end a guy's career like that? It's just uncalled for." Sullivan, who received medical attention but returned on the next series, chose his words carefully when asked about Suh. "Having a play like that doesn't feel good," Sullivan, who had an ice bag on the knee after the game, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "But it was a penalty. It cost them 15 yards (and a touchdown). We'll see what goes on from there." The teams meet again December 29 in Minnesota. Suh defended his actions in a postgame interview. "I'm just (trying) to make a block and really cut him off so he (Sullivan) doesn't get a chance to get hold of him (Levy)," Suh said. "I wasn't by any means going for his knees. He knows that. "We had a great conversation about it at halftime. He understood. My aim point was his waist, to cut him off." Mike Pereira, the NFL rules expert for FOX Sports, said he expects Suh will be fined because preventing hits below the waist on change-of-possession plays are a point of emphasis by the league. Suh's history won't help his case. He was suspended for two games two years ago for stomping on a Green Bay offensive lineman on Thanksgiving Day and then fined for kicking Houston quarterback Matt Schaub in the groin last Thanksgiving.
