Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been added to the NFC Pro Bowl team, replacing San Francisco's Justin Smith.
The 49ers advanced to the Super Bowl on Sunday with a win over Atlanta.
Suh was initially selected as an alternate. He becomes the third Detroit player picked for the Pro Bowl, the team's most since also having three selected to the 2005 game. Suh, wide receiver Calvin Johnson and long snapper Don Muhlbach are on this year's team. Johnson was selected as a starter but is not expected to play.
Suh is the first Lion to earn a Pro Bowl trip in two of his first three seasons since Barry Sanders, who earned Pro Bowl nods in all 10 of his NFL seasons.

Nearly everyone who follows the Detroit Lions reacted the same way -- "You've got to be kidding me," with a few expletives mixed in -- when the team selected Ryan Broyles in the second round of last year's NFL Draft.
It was nothing against Broyles personally, nor an indication of his potential. After all, he had been a record-setting receiver at Oklahoma.
Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press mentioned that impending free agent RT Gosder Cherilus may not be in the Lions’ offseason plans.
The Lions are expected to make major changes to their starting offensive line next season and Cherilus could be allowed to leave via free agency. Cherilus, 28, is an unrestricted free agent and might be sacrificed so that first round pick Riley...
Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com believes that the Lions will make drastic changes to their starting offensive line, which could end up with four different starters.
For the last three seasons the Lions have maintained the continuity of starters: LT Jeff Backus, LG Rob Sims, C Dominic Raiola, RG Stephen Peterman and RT Gosder Cherilus. The team is expected to retain only Sims out...
Despite the extreme disappointment the Detroit Lions were this season, head coach Jim Schwartz has been quick to defend his coaching staffs schemes and alignments this off-season. A team stocked with great defensive lineman used a Wide 9 scheme to give the defensive ends a leg up when rushing the quarterback.
The unfortunate thing though, is that the Lions sack total went...

The Detroit Lions filled their last remaining coaching vacancy, hiring John Bonamego as special teams coach, the Detroit Free Press reported Saturday. Bonamego interviewed with Lions coach Jim Schwartz on Thursday. He replaces Danny Crossman, who left the team earlier in the week to take the same job with the Buffalo Bills. The Lions struggled on special teams in 2012. They were...
PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) -- Wind and snow are shredding the roof at the Pontiac Silverdome in suburban Detroit, but it's no cause for concern.
The roof was deflated on Jan. 3 and eventually will be replaced. Stadium events coordinator Alex Loewy says the extreme weather actually is helping to bring the roof down.
He says the inflatable roof will be replaced with a hard roof by late...
Once upon a time the San Francisco 49ers had the top defense in the NFL.
Justin Smith, Patrick Willis and Donte Whitner put fear in the eyes of opposing offenses while Aldon Smith and his 19.5 sacks was a threat to the quarterback each contest.
In the first 13 games of the 2012 NFL season the 49ers defense shut the opposition down allowing only 184 points, but something happened...
