The Sports Bank:
It’s Super Bowl time! Two most storied franchises in NFL history: the New York Giants and New England Patriots are set to square off. The Patriots are the dynasty team of the 2000s in football, winning it all in 2001, 2003 and 2004. Yet they’re still the Boston sports team with the longest title drought- crazy fact isn’t it?
The Giants also have three Super Bowl titles: 1986, 1990 and 2007. They’ve been around a lot longer than the Pats so they also have four more NFL championships from the pre-Super Bowl era.
Now is the time when we all start working- overtime. All the sports bloggers, the best football reporters, the most aggressive marketers, the best online sportsbooks, the top brand managers, the “man food” industry, and the sports media in general- now’s the time when we really go to work.
And it’s fun work. So who ya’ got? Patriots or Giants? A rematch of 2007, the evil genius Bill Belichick who won two of the three Giants Super Bowl rings as a Defensive Coordinator, now le...

The Patriots and Ravens will kick it off in the AFC Championship game at 3 p.m. today, and a week of buildup will finally play out on the field. As a certain Jets linebacker would say, “Can’t wait!” Before we get it cranked up, allow Patriots DE Shaun Ellis and WR Deion Branch, both title game veterans, to offer some final thoughts. Check out my video:
Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski suffered a scary injury in the Patriots 23-20 win over the Ravens to send them to Super Bowl XLVI, as notorious safety Bernard Pollard flattened his ankle.
Yet Gronk, un-human, returned after missing just three minutes. He played in the fourth quarter, but clearly wasn’t himself. Gronk finished with five catches for 85 yards, but none after injury.
Giants players admitted after the game that the team was targeting 49ers return man Kyle Williams due to his history of concussions, including one who added their goal was to "take him outta the game."
Rob Gronkowski is absent from the New England Patriots' practice for the second straight day with an injured left ankle.
WIVB-TV in Buffalo reported that his father, Gordy Gronkowski, said he has a high ankle sprain. Rob Gronkowski attended Williamsville North High School in the Buffalo area. The station said his father expects him to be fine for the Super Bowl against the New...
During Sunday's AFC Championship, Mark Anderson contributed three tackles and a sack. He finished the regular season with 10 sacks and has been a force on New England's defensive line. Yes, it's the same Mark Anderson who the Bears drafted in 2006, and then cut in 2010.
A first-round draft pick, Anderson debuted with the Bears in 2006, notching 12 sacks in his rookie...
DNL’s Ralph Vacchiano was on the air this week and provided his three keys for the Giants if they are to advance to Super Bowl XLVI…
1) Control Vernon Davis
2) Keep pressure off Eli
3) Stop the Run
The New York Giants have advanced to the Super Bowl by beating the San Francisco 49ers in overtime 20-17. These two teams have had a history in playing epic games dating back to 1986 when the Giants defeated the 49ers 17-3 to capture their first Super bowl title. On the Giants second Super Title run in 1990, they defeated the 49ers again in a classic battle 15-13 on a Matt Barr...
Lawrence Tynes kicked a game-winning field goal to beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship. The Giants will face the Patriots in two weeks in Super Bowl XLVI.
Cruz makes eight first-half catches in NFC Championship Game en route to 142 total yards
Patriots wide receiver Chad Ochocinco is inactive for Sunday's AFC championship game against the Baltimore Ravens. Ochocinco tweeted earlier this week that his father had died. The Patriots have not announced a reason for his being inactive. In his first season with New England, Ochocinco played in 15 regular-season games, missing a Week 11 win at Philadelphia.
Only the mother of a kicker could feel for Baltimore goat Billy Cundiff
Maggie-Ann Tynes, mom of Big Blue-footed hero Lawrence Tynes, said today her heart still bleeds for a man she’s never met — the Ravens field-goal specialist who choked a chip shot that would have kept Baltimore’s...
