Tampa Bay Buccaneers ax Sabby Piscitelli this afternoon

In a somewhat surprising move, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced that they have released S Sabby Piscitelli this afternoon. Now, I’m not surprised because I like Piscitelli, I don’t. I am surprised because earlier this week they had to place rookie S Cody Grimm the injured reserve list, ending his season. Piscitelli was selected in the second round of the 2007 draft and drew immediate comparisons to John Lynch, though those comparisons were unfounded. Last year, Sabby “Ole” Piscitelli was a disaster in the secondary and was unable to tackle anyone. The timing of this move does come at a curious time though. In additional news, the Bucs also announced that they have placed DE Kyle Moore on season-ending IR with a shoulder injury which is not recovering well. The Buccaneers signed S Vince Anderson, WR Dezmon Briscoe and OG Brandon Carter from the practice squad and signed S Larry Asante from the Cleveland Browns practice squad.
