Hope is set high for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season, with a new head coach, and new players on both the offensive and defensive side of the football.

However, some players on the Tampa Bay roster are not as great as they have been made out to be while one player looks ready to step up and stop flying under the radar.

This article looks at three players that are overrated and one that is underrated for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Overrated

Josh Freeman
Josh Freeman is about to enter his fourth season in the league, and it is clear that there is a difference of opinion on how Freeman will fare this season.

Some think that adding Carl Nicks and Vincent Jackson to the team this season will cause Freeman to have a breakout year. Others think that adding Nicks and Jackson will somewhat improve Freeman’s numbers in 2012, but will not cause him to become a superstar quarterback.

Agreeing with the latter, is why I am listing Josh Freeman as one of the most overrated players on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While Freeman had a “good” season in 2010, his team still failed to make the playoffs. Freeman regressed in 2011, trying to do too much with the football and making careless mistakes and it showed as he went from six interceptions in 2010 to 16 in 2011, and ten wins in 2010 to only four wins in 2011.

Unless Freeman does have a breakout season in 2012, look for Tampa Bay to make a permanent change at quarterback.

LeGarrette Blount
After a promising rookie season in which LeGarrette Blount rushed for 1,007 yards and six touchdowns, expectations where set high for Blount’s sophomore campaign. However, in 2011, Blount played poorly, and had just one game where he showed the same fight and intensity of his rookie season.

When it was all said and done, the only thing truly the same about Blount’s first two seasons was his mishandling of the football, having nine fumbles in the span with six fumbles being lost. Blount was overrated for most of 2011, and if he does not change things up, he will be out of a job in 2012.

Aqib Talib
Aqib Talib is overrated, because despite showing flashes of football brilliance over the past two seasons, he continually wastes his talents and Tampa Bay’s time by his off-the-field activities. These “activities” include getting into a fight with a fellow teammate, being accused of hitting a cab driver, and pistol-whipping and shooting a gun at his sister’s boyfriend.

Although the latest charges were dropped and Talib has avoided significant jail time or penalties from the league,  Talib’s focus seems to be on himself rather than his team or his playing career. It is hard to teach an old dog new tricks, and it is hard to teach a football player new plays if he is in jail. Talib will eventually do something stupid, and will bring his judgment into question along with the longevity of his playing career.

Underrated

E.J. Biggers
E.J. Biggers is a player that has not been talked about a lot in his first two seasons, but he is a player with star potential.  In those two seasons, Biggers accumulated 104 solo tackles, 13 assisted tackles, two interceptions, and 21 passes defended.
