A few days ago, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver, Mike Williams, tweeted out his emotions saying he felt like his family didn’t want him anymore.   Now, because it’s the offseason — the tail end of the offseason at that — we all seem to tense up about anything that could possibly be related to football news. With this reasoning in mind, much speculation arose as to whether Williams was talking about his recent long-term contract negotiations with the Buccaneers; after all, Greg Schiano constantly refers to the Bucs as a family. However, Williams went on to bring us all back down to Earth by reminding Bucs fans that, even though we all seem to lose sight of it, these athletes do actually have lives outside of football. The details of Williams’ deal haven’t been made public, but I’m sure both sides would like to have it signed, or at least agreed upon, by week 1. In an interesting article written by SB Nation’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers Blog, Mike Williams’ production over the past three seasons was compared to that of Victor Cruz, who just received a new contract of his own. Cruz’s five-year $43 million dollar extension was not as much as people expected it to be, but $43 million dollars is still a lot of money. In theory, the deal was good for Williams who could now leverage more money by pointing out he plays both a sideline receiver and a slot receiver — Cruz is strictly a slot receiver. I expect Williams’ deal to be a four-year $35-something million dollar extension, averaging $5-6 million dollars per year, but we’ll see how much the Bucs factor in that Williams has never had a 1,000-yard season — Cruz had back-to-back.
