The back-up situation behind Josh Freeman just got a little interesting. Already having a Matt Cassel-type (a 2nd-stringer with prototypical size at college) in Mike Coughlin at 4th, Mark Domenik has scraped the illustrious Bill Belichick’s barrel. The Bucs have signed QB Jonathan Crompton to a 3-year deal, just a few days after he was cut by the Patriots, according to Jason LaCanfora of NFL Network.

Could this mean trading Josh Johnson? This would make their back-up quarterback situation as reckless as those in Indianapolis or Baltimore. That said, I like the long-term development chances of Carpenter and Crompton (and even Coughlin, who has had a shaky training camp).
