As we progress through the first week of training camp, it has become clear that the battle for the CB2 spot behind Jason McCourty is between Coty Sensabaugh and 2nd year player Blidi Wreh-Wilson. The competition between the two young corners has been fun to watch thus far, but they are making sure to keep this competition a friendly one. “We’re going to war with each other on Sundays so if we have bad blood now it’s going to be a disconnect on game day,” Wreh-Wilson told Titans Online on Wednesday. Wreh-Wilson, drafted by the Titans in the 3rd round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Connecticut, has shown growth and become more comfortable on the field than he was in his rookie season. He knows sometimes receivers catch balls, and that can’t affect his confidence or his mindset during practice. “If I’m focused on one play, I’m paralyzing myself for the future,” Wreh-Wilson said. He has also says that he prefers playing on the outside, as this is something he has done his entire career. However, if Wreh-Wilson does end up losing the battle to Sensabaugh, he will not shy away from being thrown into a more unfamiliar role. Wreh-Wilson got experience playing as the nickel back last season, and this is something he would be asked to do again, guarding slot receivers, if McCourty and Sensabaugh claim the outside spots. Ray Horton revitalized the Browns defense last year, and after watching tape of the Browns, Wreh-Wilson saw that they had guys all over the place, playing multiple positions. So flexibility and versatility will be a key component in the new Titans defense under Ray Horton. “Whatever the coaches need me to do and want me to do is what I’m going to do,” Wreh-Wilson said. Whatever the outcome of this friendly competition, both Wreh-Wilson and Sensabaugh will see plenty of action on the field this season, and will have the chance to be impact players in the secondary.
