The Farm Club:
When it comes underdogs, the NFL is full of them.
Take a look at the Kansas City Chiefs who are surging at 6-0. Give the New England Patriots credit for being 5-1 after being decimated by injuries. And don’t count out the Tennessee Titans, despite their 3-3 record.
While it may seem like the Titans’ hopes have been dashed as of late due to the injury to quarterback Jake Locker, this team is still full of vitality, as seen in their most recent match-ups. Last weekend they fell to the Seattle Seahawks 20-13, but anyone who watched that game will tell you that the Titans gave them a run for their money.
At the end of the day, it was the defense’s lack of ability to control the mobile Russell Wilson that eventually lost the game for Tennessee (along with a turnover or two). However, there’s much to be said about this team, which has come a long way since its struggles in 2012.
Now, the Titans will (likely) need to go one more week without Locker at the helm against the San Francisco 49ers. Although the Niners are the 4-point favorites as of Wednesday afternoon, don’t rule out this feisty Tennessee squad.
Both teams are averaging a reasonable amount of yardage per game – the 49ers at 332 yards, and the Titans at 302 yards. However, the big difference comes in the run game – the 49ers have managed to rack up an average of 141 rushing yards each game, while the Titans have only hit 108 yards, despite having Chris Johnson in the backfield. If Tennessee is going to win against the Niners this weekend, they’ll need help from CJ2K.
The crowd at LP Field should help Tennessee, which is desperate for a win. Head coach Mike Munchak stressed earlier this week that his team is in trouble if they drop three straight heading into their BYE in Week 8. While the assumption right now is that Locker will be back after the BYE, it will still be tough for the young quarterback to turn the team around if it’s on a devastating losing streak.

According to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean, Titans quarterback Jake Locker returned to practice on Wednesday as he continues to nurse knee and hip injuries.
It looks like Locker could be a week or two away from playing.

Jake Locker will begin "football activities" htis week according to Coach Mike Munchak.
Locker who sprained his hip against the New York Jets has missed the past two games and probably won't be under center when the Tennessee Titans host the San Francisco 49ers. But after ruling him out quickly the previous two Mondays Munchak said there was some chance that Locker...
Injured Tennessee quarterback Jake Locker says he's preparing to start Sunday against San Francisco.
The Titans aren't saying he will, but they're also not saying he won't.
Coach Mike Munchak said Thursday the Titans are going to wait and see how Locker feels after a second straight practice before deciding who starts against the 49ers.
"We're not going...
Despite rumors that the Titans are looking to trade wide receiver Kenny Britt, head coach Mike Munchak said “we have no plans” to trade him.
Munchak did leave the chance of Britt being traded open.
“Obviously, anything can happen,” Munchak said via The Tennessean. “But he needs to help us win games, and hopefully that will be this weekend.”
My guess is teams aren’t...
With Ryan Fitzpatrick running the offense, the Tennessee Titans have not looked the same. The presence of a young quarterback in Jake Locker seemed to be what was sparking this offense. Since Locker injured his hip in Week 4 against the New York Jets, the Titans have dropped two in a row and have fallen to 3-3 on the year.
Though only a seven-point loss to a potential Super Bowl...
NASHVILLE, Tenn. One of the fixes that had to happen this season for the Titans to be successful was to rebuild its offensive line.
The grouping was beset by combination of injuries and poor play to have a large part in last seasons 6-10 debacle. That had to particularly stick in the craw of Titans head coach Mike Munchak and offensive line coach Bruce Matthews, a pair of Pro Football...
Last week: 15 (+1)
The Titans hung tough in Seattle and were just the 2nd team to cover the spread there over the past 2 seasons. Ryan Fitzpatrick is obviously a limiting factor for this team and, to be fair, Jake Locker probably would have been as well once his interception rate increased from 0.0%. However, they have plenty of defensive talent and can frustrate opponents...
From the TitansOnline.com:NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans signed veteran LB Zac Diles and waived WRMichael Preston.Diles (6-2, 245) re-joins the Titans after signing with Kansas City in the offseason. He played in six games for the Titans last season and totaled 13 tackles before breaking his ankle in the Buffalo game (10/21) and being placed on injured reserve.Diles has...
Since I'm really not in the mood to do the writing about Chris Johnson that an examination of the run game would entail, I decided instead to turn my attention to one of the other headaches for the Titans on offense. Yes, it's a Kenny Britt post.
I decided to go ahead and watch all of Britt's targets this year. My goal in doing so would multi-fold:
The Titans are making a big change in the middle of their offensive line – rookie Brian Schwenke is taking over at center.
Schwenke the team’s fourth-round draft pick will start on Sunday against the 49ers. He replaces veteran Rob Turner who started the first six games of the season.
“I think he’ll do a great job’’ coach Mike Munchak said of Schwenke. “We drafted...
The San Francisco 49ers travel to Tennessee this weekend to play the Titans, who are dealing with injuries to starting quarterback Jake Locker. But Locker has returned to practice this week, leaving some question as to whether or not he will play. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said the team is preparing for Locker just in case.
The sixth-year veteran wide receiver joined his teammates for a Tuesday walk-through but doesn’t expect to be a full practice participant this week.
Manningham who suffered torn knee ligaments in Week 16 of the 2012 season doesn’t plan on rushing back into a game. The 49ers visit the Tennessee Titans this Sunday.
“Just taking it day-by-day seeing how it goes” Manningham...
Titans are elder gods in Greek mythology. There massive and powerful, and seemingly completely unrelated to anything in Tennessee. That was what I thought until witnessing this game on Sunday. Seahawks fans got to see what their team looked like playing with a Titan on their backs. Everything was harder. There was no sense of flow or free movement. Each step was arduous and unsure...
The Tennessee Titans are mired in a two-game losing streak, and reversing the trend doesn’t get any easier for the franchise in the immediate future. The Titans now face a team streaking in the opposite direction, the San Francisco 49ers, this Sunday afternoon in Tennessee. Ryan Fitzpatrick has captained the ship for the Titans the last two weeks, as starting quarterback Jake...
Just when a Tennessee Titans loss to the San Francisco 49ers seemed almost definite, Jake Locker shocks the (Titans) world- he recovers. The young starter has a possibility to play Sunday, and Coach Munchak said that if Locker dresses, he will start. So how does this affect the team and its chances to win? Here are The Spot's Titans Gurus' "X-Factors" to a Titans...
