According to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean, the Tennessee Titans are fully expected to cut former superstar running back Chris Johnson this offseason. There have been rumors swirling all season long about Johnson’s future with the team, and his displeasure with the way that he was being used. It will certainly be different not seeing Johnson in a Titans uniform after six seasons of being known as a star.
“The Titans have swung and missed on many running backs over the years they had big plans for, as those guys flamed out. At some point this offseason, the light is going to go out on Johnson’s days in Tennessee. In my opinion, it’s not a matter of if he’s released, but when.” - Jim Wyatt
If Johnson does indeed end up getting released, there will be quite a few teams lining up to sign him. He’s made it very clear that he can still play football and simply needs to be used in a different way. Johnson didn’t have as big of a season as many have grown accustomed to, but he still put up decent numbers this past year.
Johnson carried the football 279 times for a total of 1,077 yards and six touchdowns. Obviously those aren’t great numbers, but they are better than quite a few other running backs in the NFL. One team to keep an eye on according to early reports is the Miami Dolphins. They are interested in pairing Johnson with Ryan Tannehill and trying to make a run in the AFC East. All that being said, keep an eye on Chris Johnson’s name this offseason.
