His Day Is Coming!

Ex Huskies QB Jake Locker was the backup for the Titans this season and with good reason since ex-Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck had a solid season.

Still, Locker did get some action in this last season and I think he showed that he will be a legit NFL QB and that Tennessee made a solid move by taking him in the first round of the 2011 draft.

I really feel that Locker showed enough for the Titans to feel proud of their first overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

FIVE NICE things Jake Locker did for Tennessee this year that shows he’ll make a great NFL pro quarterback…

1. Pro from day One

Right when the lockout started Locker was ready to go and he won over his teammates from the beginning. He was the first Titans’ player to show up at training camp and he came with his playbook in hand and that impressed his teammates.

2. He played well when given the chance

When Hasselbeck was injured Locker came in and played well. In his first action he came in facing a solid Atlanta team and he was 9/19 for 140 yards with 2 TD and 0 INT.

In a December game facing the Saints he passed for a season high 282 yards with 1 TD.

3. No Interceptions

While the rookie QB’s of Cam Newton, Blaine Gabbert, and Andy Dalton got all the press and Newton and Dalton had good seasons each struggled with the INT. Rookies at the QB position tend to throw a lot of picks, but this season Locker had 0 INT in 66 pass attempts.

He showed his ability to stay in the pocket and take a hit and not just throw the ball away to the other team.

4. Ability outside the pocket

Locker showed in the pre-season that he can get it done outside the pocket with a 45-yard TD bomb after scrambling outside the pocket. He showed he can sling it when the play breaks down and still find the open receiver.

5. Locker can run the ball

Those of us in the PNW already knew this. But did the rest of America? Locker has the ability to run the ball and this season he rushed for 56 yards with 1 TD and picked up 4 first downs with legs.

He averaged a legit 7 yards per carry this season and in the Saints game he showed his toughness scoring on a short run and got nailed on the goal line, but still held onto the ball.

Locker did not see a lot of time on the field this season with only 66 passing attempts in 5 games, but when he was in he played well.

Newton and Dalton got all the press this season, but I don’t think it will be long before Locker is the best rookie QB from the 2011 class.

Moss return may be far-fetched

Randy Moss says he's coming out of retirement. "Your boy be back for the upcoming season," Moss proclaimed earlier this week on an internet video stream. If it were only that simple. Yes, he's one of the most prolific wide receivers in NFL history. Yes, his agent told profootballtalk.com on Tuesday that three teams have already inquired. But none of this means...

NFL rewind: Randy Moss ‘Straight cash homey’ (video)

NFL Free Agent wide receiver Randy Moss doesn’t write checks.  In this 2004 impromptu interview Moss was asked by a reporter how he was going to pay the $10,000 fine that he received for his infamous “mooning” of the Green Bay Packer fans at Lambeau field. In a classic Randy Moss moment, Moss sporting a hoodie, nonchalantly replied “straight cash homey” When you’re a...

Teams want to meet with Randy Moss

According to Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network, there are multiple teams that are interested in meeting with Randy Moss. Moss is a free agent and can sign with any team he would like at the moment.  He’s indicated that he’s in good shape and can run a 4.3 40-yard dash.  I really don’t believe Moss is that fast anymore.  It’s simply not realistic for a...

Parsing Ruston Webster: Insight from the Titans' new GM

A couple years ago, I wrote a piece parsing some of what Mike Reinfeldt said about his football philosophy and ideas when he was a relatively young general manager. Now, it's been Ruston Webster's turn to make the rounds, speaking first at a lunch at Lipscomb University and then on a conference call to season ticket holders (audio link, no transcript). I don't think Webster...

On Moss, Cris Carter says teams should worry about “that thing called quit”

On Monday, former Randy Moss teammate and mentor Cris Carter said that Moss can still run the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds. On Tuesday, Carter applied a caveat to that assessment. “The one thing you have to address with Randy Moss is not a conditioning thing,” Carter told ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike in the…

Five Reasons the Bills Should Try and Sign Randy Moss

Veteran wide receiver and future NFL Hall of Famer Randy Moss announced earlier this week that he is officially un-retiring from the NFL.   Planning a comeback after a year away from the game. While I’m sure Moss has a list of teams he would prefer to play for, I have five reasons the Buffalo Bills should consider making a run at the receiver. 1. They need more playmakers...

Moss hasn’t learned anything from T.O.’s dilemma

NFL teams take risks but when they do they prefer to takerisks with younger players. While there are those who believe Randy Moss isworth taking a risk on talent-wise, there is one thing that could potentiallyhold teams back: his attitude.Terrell Owens has a reputation as a prima donna and a lockerroom cancer which is one of the reasons teams have been reluctant to take achance on...

Randy Moss has caused quite the stir in recent days after announcing his plan to return to the gridiron in 2012. The buzz may only increase from here. Carter talks with Irvin about Canton, Moss' comeback

Cris Carter knows he has the numbers worthy of a Hall of Famer. He also knows there's nothing else he can do but wait. The Vikings great also spoke with Michael Irvin about Randy Moss' comeback attempt.

Terry Foster: Lions should gather no Moss

Elite receivers — even ones at the end of their career — demand the ball. And want more. That's one reason any talk of the Lions signing the soon-to-be-unretired Randy Moss should end there. As talk.

Ten-Point Stance: Must-see Moss TV could kill an NFL comeback

If Randy Moss doesn't wind up in the NFL next season, there's always reality TV. Mike Freeman says Moss' unscripted internet rants are the best thing on right now, but they could also kill his comeback.

Spielman on Moss: `We'll be moving on.'

In case you couldn't have guessed it, Vikings GM Rick Spielman comes out and says the team has no interest in Randy Moss.
