Nfl-holds-2010-draft-new
The great thing about the NFL is that there are so many positions that every year, there is almost always at least one player who has a breakout year on every team, no matter how good or bad the team is. This is one part in a 32 part segment detailing one potential breakout player for the 2012 NFL season on each NFL team. For the Tennessee Titans, that player is defensive end Derrick Morgan. Derrick Morgan was a 1st round pick of the Titans in 2010, going 16th overall. He barely played as a rookie, playing just 114 snaps, before tearing his ACL week 4. For what it’s worth, he played well in very limited action, managing 2 sacks and 7 quarterback pressures on 64 pass rush snaps, a 14.1% rate, and he also played the run well. In 2011, he struggled mightily last season with 3 sacks, 6 quarterback hits, and 19 quarterback pressures on 378 pass rush snaps (7.4%), though he played the run pretty well. He was not fully back from that torn ACL, as he had to have another minor operation on t...

Locker named starter against Bucaneers

Jake Locker said on Tuesday that head coach Mike Munchaks decision to start him on Friday at Tampa Bay in the Tennessee Titans second preseason game wasnt a big deal. Somehow, it feels differently. The palpable excitement on Lockers face in video posted on the teams Web site contrasted with 2011 starter Matt Hasselbecks initial downcast manner, though Hasselbeck said all of the...

Tennessee Titans: Javon Ringer Better Option Than Chris Johnson

Money motivates.  Tennessee Titans running back, Javon Ringer, is in a contract year and looking to become a starter. Chris Johnson signed a $53 million contract with Tennessee in 2011, and his performace since isn't worth the price tag.  RInger is hungrier for a paycheck than Johnson this season and should legitimately be considered as the starting back for 2012, with Johnson...

Tennessee Titans: Jake Locker Has Horrendous First Start

The Tennessee Titans have pretty much handed their starting quarterback job to second-year pro Jake Locker. Well, Locker went out and had his first career start on Friday night and it didn’t go so well. Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Locker completed just 4 of 11 passes for 21 yards and an interception. Meanwhile, veteran Matt Hasselbeck – who is the other guy gunning for...

Tennessee Titans second preseason game preview

The Tennessee Titans play their second preseason game of 2012 tonight in Tampa against the Buccaneers. The game kicks off at 6:30 PM CT and will air on the Titans and Bucs local preseason affiliates.Since it's the second preseason game, the Titans may have some idea of what the Bucs will try to do this game, but once again this game is much more about watching the Titans and...

Titans sign OL Jasper, Palmer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Titans have signed offensive linemen Michael Jasper and Jonathan Palmer to boost their roster numbers up to 90 after a couple of injuries. Center Eugene Amano tore his right triceps early in training camp, left guard Steve Hutchinson has been getting some time off for rest and tackle Mike Otto dislocated his ring finger Tuesday night. Coach...

Old and young in 2011, what might the Titans be in 2012?

A while ago, comrade in the statistical revolution Chase Stuart at his site Football Perspective put together a list of how old each team was on offense and defense. Now, obviously you can't just take roster size and apply it, but need to try to assess how valuable, relatively, different players are. For that, Chase used P-F-R's AV metric. I have my quibbles with that, but...

Braylon Edwards has finally found a true home in Seattle

Braylon Edwards has always been a talented receiver and as such he’s proven himself to be an enigma so far in the NFL. He’s made huge plays and saw his career jump off to a great start yet after leaving Cleveland he sputtered out in both New York with the Jets and in San Francisco. Now, it looks like he’s ready to go for his and he appears to be on the verge of his long-awaited...

Locker ready to make 1st NFL start at Tampa Bay

Jake Locker finally makes his first NFL start Friday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he's definitely looking forward to something he expects to be a lot of fun. The Tennessee Titans just hope he plays well enough to make take the decision on their starting quarterback out of their hands. ''We're running out of time,'' coach Mike Munchak said...

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Chris Johnson ran for two touchdowns and Rob Bironas kicked three field goals as the Tennessee Titans capitalized on some early turnovers to earn a 30-7 preseason victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday night. The Titans (No. 21 in the AP Pro32 rankings) got an early boost from their defense, capitalizing on two first-half turnovers by the Bucs (No. 26...

Perimeter on Location: Seahawks vs. Titans

Six days ago I attended an NFL preseason matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans. Needless to say, the atmosphere in Seattle was electric. The building roared with a myriad of cheers and boos and had all the makings of a regular season matchup. As with any sporting event there’s always at least one stupefied drunk guy sitting within earshot. Lucky for this journalist...
