As the Tennessee Titans wrapped up OTA’s last month and look ahead to the start of training camp, wide receiver Justin Hunter continues to draw attention from his teammates and the coaching staff.
They are constantly in his ear, talking trash, just in case he needs that extra push to take his game to the next level and become the best player possible.
Prior to OTA’s kicking off in June, new coach Ken Whisenhunt had only seen Hunter on tape, and now the coacht is already convinced that Hunter has the potential to be a playmaker in the Titans new offense. At 6-foot-4, he has the size and speed to be a dominant receiver on the outside. Hunter has been showing off his work ethic as well, another reason why Whisenhunt is excited about his potential.
Before the Titans selected Hunter with the 34th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the knock on him was his thin physique and whether his body could handle the constant hits during a 16-game season. This offseason, Hunter claims he has already gained 15 pounds of muscle, according to the Associated Press. He has also changed his eating habits, eating more steak, chicken and fish to help him bulk up.
Not only is Hunter bulking up, he is also gaining confidence with each practice. ”His confidence is growing,” veteran receiver Nate Washington told the Associated Press earlier this week. ”Confidence is a danger in this league. You get a guy with some confidence, the sky’s the limit.”
Last season, Hunter’s first career reception was a game-winning touchdown from Jake Locker with 15 seconds left, to seal the 20-17 victory over the San Diego Chargers in Week 3. We will find out if Hunter is ready to take another step forward in 2014, and become the perfect complement to Kendall Wright.
