Tennessee Titans Signing Veteran Safety A.J. Moore Ahead of First Training Camp Practice

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans have been looking for veteran additions for a while now, but most of the attention was on wide receiver and right tackle, but the Titans will be adding some veteran depth on defense with the signing of safety A.J. Moore.

The Titans worked out free agent A.J. Moore on Tuesday and are signing him. Moore actually spent time with the Titans last season. Moore played week one against the New York Giants, but was injured after only five special teams snaps. The Titans placed Moore on injured reserve and he was never heard of again.

Now, Moore will get a chance at redemption with the Titans. After last training camp, Moore was expected to be a relatively big piece to the Titans defense and special teams units. He was supposed to be on all the kick coverage teams and rotate in some as a dime-package defensive back.

Alas, none of it came to pass, but with the Titans having a major need at safety heading into camp, Moore could fill that exact role again. The Titans are cross-training cornerback Elijah Molden for that dime safety role, but are one injury away from needed a safety with real experience.

Before joining the Titans in 2022, Moore played four seasons with the Texans. Moore had over 260 special teams snaps in three out of four seasons with the Texans and the one year he didn't eclipse that mark was in 2020 when he set a career high in defensive snaps with 354.

After starters Kevin Byard and Amani Hooker, the Titans don't have much depth. Veteran Mike Brown and Shyheim Carter are next up, followed by a bunch of undrafted free agent rookies.

Moore is now officially singed and I'm sure the Titans are checking if his ankle injury recovered properly, but if Moore is healthy, he could be a welcome addition to the Titans' secondary and a great fit for what they need.

The Titans will be releasing defensive tackle Curtis Brooks to make room for Moore.
