The NFL this year is keeping track of player participation on a weekly basis and releasing that information to the media. Here's how the Titans lined up in Week 16. Offense (59 total) QB: Jake Locker 59 RB/FB: Chris Johnson 37, Jamie Harper 22, Quinn Johnson 12 TE: Craig Stevens 49, Taylor Thompson 21 WR: Kenny Britt 54, Nate Washington 47, Damian Williams 22, Michael Preston 19, Lavelle Hawkins 12 OL: Deuce Lutui 59, Michael Roos 59, Byron Stingily 59, Fernando Velasco 59, Mitch Petrus 37, Kyle DeVan 22 Defense (78 total) DE: Derrick Morgan 62, Kamerion Wimbley 61, Jarius Wynn 23 DT: Sen'Derrick Marks 54, Jurrell Casey 52, Mike Martin 26, DaJohn Harris 15, Karl Klug 7 LB: Zach Brown 70, Akeem Ayers 48, Tim Shaw 41, Will Witherspoon 39 CB: Jason McCourty 78, Alterraun Verner 78, Coty Sensabaugh 41, Tommie Campbell 7 S: Michael Griffin 78, Al Afalava 60, Jordan Babineaux 18 Xavier Radii, Patrick Bailey, Brandon Barden, Beau Brinkley, Darius Reynaud, and Tracy Wilson each only appeared on special teams. Daniel Baldridge and Matt Hasselbeck did not appear in the game. Notes: 1. For the second week in a row, Darius Reynaud failed to appear on offense. Unlike last week, the Titans were down by multiple scores throughout. He played inconsistently in the first eleven games, but has basically disappeared since then. This looks like one change in the Dowell Loggains Era. 2. Taylor Thompson played 2 more snaps than he did last week, but that's probably a result of Craig Stevens' injury. I'll run basic participation group trendlines after the end of the season, but it seems like (a) Loggains doesn't favor multiple-TE looks and/or (b) Loggains doesn't favor Thompson and/or Brandon Barden, who dressed for the second game in a row but did not appear on offense. 3. I haven't seen any reports of Mitch Petrus suffering an injury, which would mean he sat for performance issues. I'll have to check that on re-watch, along with just how Byron Stingily performed. 4. DaJohn Harris, a healthy scratch most weeks, 15 snaps. Karl Klug, always active, 7 snaps. Teams tell you what they think by what they do, and the Titans seem to be telling us Karl Klug has very little value outside of a specified role. At this point in the season, this is not really news, but I got tired of hearing about him this past offseason. 5. One thing that struck me late in the game was how many starters the Titans still had in there. It's not really a surprise with young players like Zach Brown and Akeem Ayers, though. 6. With Ryan Mouton inactive, Tommie Campbell was the fourth corner. His 7 snaps on defense were the most he's gotten in a regular season game. 7. Al Afalava's playing time seemed to be the result of Jordan Babineaux's quad injury more than a performance issue. 8. I'll have to check, but I'm not sure the Titans played any Ruby package this week. 9. This was the second week in a row, and fifth time overall, the offense had fewer than 60 snaps in a game. The defense has faced at least 60 snaps in every game. As the offense and the defense are facing roughly equal numbers of possessions, this is a reflection of the (lack of) quality of both the offense and the defense.
