Terrell Owens‘ NFL playing days may soon finally be numbered.
The 39-year-old free agent wide receiver, who hasn’t played in the NFL since a stint with the Bengals in 2010, said in an interview with CBSSports.com this week that he’ll call it a career if he doesn’t play in the league this season.
“If I play this year, that’d be awesome,” Owens said. “If I don’t play this year, I’m retiring.”
“That’s just me being realistic. I want to play again. I want to go out on top with a team. I think I can still play, but if I don’t sign with a team, it would be time to retire. I have to be honest with myself.”
If he doesn’t sign with a team, Owens is undoubtedly still a future Hall of Famer. He ranks second all-time in receiving yards, third in receiving touchdowns and made six Pro Bowls in his 15-year career, which was filled with controversy and accusations of dividing locker rooms.
And even if he doesn’t find a team to play for, Owens’ professional career in sports may not be over.

Wait, he's not already retired?

Terrell Owens has not appeared in a regular season NFL game since he was with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2010. All indications are that Owens is still in fairly good shape for a 39-year-old receiver, but three years away from real NFL game action is a very long time. Despite the layoff, TO still thinks he can [...]
Probably time to start working on that retirement speech now.
T.O. physically still can play in the NFL, his work ethic has never been in question, but teams just prefer younger quieter players they can mold.
Even though there are different variations why, it is the same reason Chad Johnson, Tim Tebow and Vince Young don’t have jobs in the NFL either. Teams just don’t want to...
I always personally hope that some of the great athletes I watched growing up are able to go out of the game on their own terms. Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work like that and Terrell Owens is a perfect example. TO feels he can still play and physically he is probably right. Teams just aren’t [...]
In recent years, pro football has not exactly worked out for Terrell Owens. Reality television wasn’t kind, either, to T.O., whose self-titled show lasted just three seasons.
The wide receiver is still trying to catch on with an NFL team, but in the meantime, he’s been bowling. And apparently, he’s actually pretty good at it.
