At the beginning of the week, word came out of Reliant that the Houston Texans were in talks to resign their starting left tackle, Duane Brown. The rumors became truth today when Brown and the Texans agreed on a new deal.
Duane Brown signed 6-year $53.4 million extension. $22.08 guananteed. $8.9 million average. — John McClain (@McClain_on_NFL) August 16, 2012
The new deal for Brown will start in 2013 and will keep him in Houston until the 2018 season, and have him as the cornerstone left tackle for years to come. Brown had his best season as a professional where he only surrendered two sacks during the 2011 season, and proved to be one of the top left tackles in the game. Drafted out of Virginia Tech in the 1st round (26th overall), Brown has solidified himself and part of the core for the Texans moving forward as a franchise. This move only shows how important it was for General Manager Rick Smith to get him under contract before the 2012 season kicked off, so there would be no distractions during the season.   Here are some comments on Duane Brown’s contract.
#Texans LT @duanebrown76: “I’m so excited to be able to get this deal done and be a Texan for a long time.” — Nick Scurfield (@NickScurfield) August 16, 2012

Gary Kubiak on @duanebrown76: “We’re happy for him. You love seeing players that do it the right way get rewarded.” — Nick Scurfield (@NickScurfield) August 16, 2012
“I think he’s got the ability to be as good as there is in the league.” – #Texans GM Rick Smith on LT @duanebrown76 — Nick Scurfield (@NickScurfield) August 16, 2012
