Texans’ Nico Collins Sounds Off On Contract Status
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins is coming off of a breakout 2023 campaign, and it just so happens that he is eligible for a contract extension this offseason.

Talk about perfect timing.

Collins spoke about his contract status this week and does not seem to be in any rush to reach a long-term agreement with the Texans.

“Oh man, I would love that,” Collins said of a potential extension, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC. “That would be great. I feel like that’s what everybody works for. I’m just going to let it come to me, whatever they decide, whatever they want to do. I’m going to let it ride. Me, I’m going to continue to get better and work on my game. If they want to negotiate, we can.”

Collins played in 15 games this past season, hauling in 80 receptions for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Michigan, was selected by Houston in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 14 contests during his rookie year, catching 33 passes for 446 yards and a score. Injuries then limited him 10 games his sophomore campaign, and during his time on the field that season, he snared 37 balls for 481 yards while reaching the end zone twice.

It doesn’t seem like a coincidence that Collins’ breakthrough 2023 just so happened to occur once C.J. Stroud took over under center, so the Texans would surely like to keep those two players together for the long haul.

Houston went 10-7 and won the AFC South this past year. It also defeated the Cleveland Browns in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs before losing to the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional Round.

We’ll see if the Texans open up contract negotiations with Nico Collins in the coming weeks and months.
