Several Houston Texans players aren’t very happy with Tennessee Titans offensive lineman David Stewart, as they claim that he “played dirty” against them in Houston’s 38-14 tromping victory.
Multiple players, as telling the Houston Chronicle, say Stewart used several “dirty tactics” when blocking the defenders. Stewart did several things, such as pulling on Texans’ Brooks Reed‘s hair or punching some players. All of this adds more fuel to the fire of this AFC South rivalry.
“I saw some things I’ve never seen before,” Texans defensive end Antonio Smith said.. “I saw him try to pull (Reed’s) hair out, tried to ride somebody’s back, which I thought was kind of funny, actually.”
It’s very interesting, since it’s very unheard hearing these things in a football game. Many players compare Stewart to Miami Dolphins guard Richie Incognito, who is known for being a very dirty player dating back to some of his previous conflicts in the past few seasons. Incognito brought up more controversy in Week One when he did similar things that Stewart did.
“He’s like Incognito,” Houston linebacker Connor Barwin said. “Everybody will say it — (Stewart) is a dirty player. He threw a punch at me. He threw a punch at Brooks.”
Daniel Manning, the team’s cornerback, said that Stewart also got dirty with some of the secondary, as he also got into a little scuffle with defensive back Jonathan Joseph.
“One play, I saw (Joseph) making a tackle, and (Stewart) was around the pile, and he was trying to help (Titans running back) Chris Johnson up,” he said. “(Joseph) was down. He was kneeing (Joseph), and I said, ‘This guy’s crazy.’”
However, the Texans players said that the tactics worked for them, giving them some motivation to beat the Titans, which they ended up doing.
“When he started doing all that, that spark happened,” Smith said. “Everybody started making plays, so it kind of worked against them.”
Looks like karma got the best of Stewart.
