In a surprising pre-free agency move, the Texans released veteran right tackle Eric Winston Monday. Winston has started every Texans game since 2007. The team has not commented on the move and when reached by text, Winston indicated to FOXSportsHouston.com that he was tying up loose ends and he would discuss the matter at a later time. According to published figures Winston's 2012 cap number was to be 5.5 million. Winston announced his release on Twitter. Meanwhile, receiver Andre Johnson on Monday did accept a restructuring of his deal. Sources with knowledge of the new deal indicate that Johnson's 2012 salary of 6.5 million would be turned into a bonus and amortized over the balance of his contract but the Texans are also guaranteeing Johnson an extra 1 million for agreeing to the new deal. Winston was drafted in the second round by the Texans in 2006.
