Ed Reed’s Hall of Fame career could be in the midst of its inevitable, age-related downward spiral. Reed signed with the Houston Texans for three years to the tune of $15 million this past off season, with $6 million of it being guaranteed money. Reed has missed time due to injury this season, and when he has played, he has looked lost and has played well below his talent level. Reed has now lost his starting job to Shiloh Keo, with Texans’ interim head coach Wade Phillips being non-committal when questioned about the immediate future of Reed. Although Reed receives his guaranteed $6 million from the Texans, it was placed in signing bonuses and “up-front” money, with none of his base salary being guaranteed beyond the 2013 season. This has spawned retirement talk, something that the 35-year old safety is now viewing as a possibility.
