I am not one to read to much into what a coach says, as far as game plans are concerned, during the week, but it is hard to ignore these comments from the Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.
âWe (will) double cover him every play. Thatâs our plan. Weâre going to double cover him every playâ
While it seems odd that Phillips would disclose his approach against an elite receiver, this isnât exactly a revolutionary idea. This does, however, limit my optimism on Brandon Marshall this week. Double coverage is tough to beat, and with a sometimes erratic QB in Jay Cutler, Marshall owners could be in for a long night. The Texans front line is strong, and if they can apply pressure early, Marshall wonât have time to find breathing room against a double team.
If they do in fact double team him, it is hard to project Marshall as a WR1 this week. Youâre probably not benching him, but Iâd think twice before starting Cutler as a top 15 QB this week. I know that is difficult after a big performance last weekend, but remember, those stats wonât help you this week.
BEST OF MAXIM
For those of you who have yet to experience it, Smokinâ Jay Cutler is one of the funniest bits to hit the internet this year. Thereâs something about the looks Jay Cutler gives that makes it hilarious to photoshop a cigarette into his mouth. In fact, Cutler himself even agrees.
âI know a few of those guys,â Cutler said on Showtimeâs Inside the NFL this week according to...
Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips told the media today that they plan on double teaming Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall on every play.
I think this is a wise decision by Phillips and the Texans since Marshall is one of the Bearsâ dangerous players.
In the NFL the best receivers can beat a double team. Weâll see if Marshall is up to the challenge on Sunday...
Houston DC Wade Phillips says the Texans will double team Chicago wideout Brandon Marshall all game Sunday, meaning the Bears must have an executable Plan B in place.
The Chicago Bears have completed the first eight games of the season and it's time to take a look at the team and grade each position group. There were high expectations for the Bears offense heading into the 2012 season with the addition of Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, the long term extension of Matt Forte and the addition of Michael Bush. The offense was expected...

The Cowboys will stop underachieving once they fire Wade PhillipsâŚoh wait⌠they did that 2 years ago. In an interview shown before Sunday Night Football, Owner/GM Jerry Jones said that if the GM were anyone other than him, he as Owner would have fired him by now. However, the next day, he said he will never step down. In between, the Cowboys lost...
No one needs a reminder of how poor the quarterback position in Chicago has been before the arrival of Jay Cutler. Any primetime game that has featured the Bears that I can recall in the last decade has shown the graphic. We all know the graphic. The long list of quarterbacks that Bears have ran
College basketball begins tonight. Can you believe it? Iâm OK with it.
Jay Cutler has a pretty good sense of humor about being Jay Cutler.
Hereâs Rod Stewart crying, and itâs sports related!
Fantasy football sleepers, if you are into that.

Back to this. I really broke my own rule by overreacting to the Bearsâ near lose to the lowly Panthers and dropping them down even though Iâve never been sold on Atlanta. The Bearsâ huge blowout win helped me see the light. Jay Cutler is now 12-1 in his last 13 games, which would be 12 in a row if you exclude their Thursday Night loss in Green...
The results are in and Ndamukong Suh is still considered the dirtiest player in the NFL. Suh received the top votes in a players poll conducted by The Sporting News for the second consecutive year. He received 32 votes from 103 players, slightly down from 36 votes from 111 players last year. The Nebraska lineman has become known for his nasty side since coming into the league...
Houston Texans (7-1) at Chicago Bears (7-1)
Iâve called Chicago the best team in the NFL on several occasions. Itâs close, but they are the team Iâd least want to play right now. Atlanta may be undefeated, but theyâve had a very easy schedule and arenât blowing guys out like the Bears are, winning 5 of 8 by a touchdown or less, including games that should have been blowouts...
After a great day of football, it gets topped off with a marquee match up and potential Superbowl preview featuring the Houston Texans travelling to Solider Field to take on the Chicago Bears. There has been much talk all week debating the two (7-1) teams. Both teams feature Pro Bowlers on both sides of the ball, as well as emerging talent all over the field.
The Bears have showing...
