This past weekend the Houston Texans fell 38-13 to the St. Louis Rams in an ugly defeat greatly marred by subpar quarterback play and by a major injury to franchise QB Matt Schaub; he and backup TJ Yates, who surrendered an interception returned for a touchdown, were largely ineffective. Having suffered yet another frustrating setback, the Texans must face an imminent decision regarding the most important position on the field. Following Houston’s decisive defeat, Vince Young expressed on his Twitter account his strong desire to play for the Texans. Currently unemployed with no team, Young has significant ties to the area and is wildly popular in the city and throughout the Lone Star State; he navigated the Texas Longhorns to Mack Brown’s national title behind his heroic individual performance in engineering a comeback against the USC Trojans eight seasons ago. Adding Vince Young to the fold would inject tremendous enthusiasm and excitement into the city and the team, and it would greatly rejuvenate a fanbase which is very much seeking a spark and a new direction offensively. Outside opinions regarding Young’s ability vary greatly. Some have been quick to say that they would not touch him with a ten-foot pole, that he could only downgrade a team upon his arrival. Those opposed to the idea of signing Young to the team have cited some of the prior examples of emotional instability and inconsistent play demonstrated by him in the past. While with the Tennessee Titans, he experienced the greatly polarizing incident in which he allegedly wandered missing away from home evidently unstable emotionally following an early-season loss; some have used that incident as an example which deems him unreliable. Conversely, proponents of the idea of signing Young have pointed to the success enjoyed at times by him in the league. He is widely considered a player possessing a winning mentality, an infectious ability to engineer comebacks with his ability to improvise late in games. The Houston Texans should strongly consider the prospects of signing “VY” to their football team. He is beloved within the area, being a Houston native and having guided the Longhorns to a national title. His addition to the team would rejuvenate the fanbase and potentially reignite an offense which has been recently weighed down by inadequate quarterback play. Young provides the possibility of generating a turnaround for the team. 1 total views, 1 views today
